It's like the world and all the people, words, and problems blurred together. I didn't even care that we were kissing in the middle of the hallway at school. One little uneasy word manages to pull my attention away from the kiss. Eventually everything good has to end. So when I hear a familiar voice say, "A-Alex?" I pull away to see where the voice is coming from. I realize, still a little dazed, that my best friend is watching Alex rake his fingers through my hair. Alex sees her and takes an uncertain step away from me. "Shelby? Hey what's up" I say a little embarrassed even though I shouldn't be embarrassed with my best friend. Its just something about the way she is looking at me that made me think that she wasn't too happy that I finally got my first kiss. I try not to look at Alex, I don't want to know the emotion that would definitely show all over his face. Shelby turns to look at me finally, but I wish she didn't. I don't know what hurts worse right now. The way Shelby is looking at me or the tears I can see in her eye. "I was just about to ask you the same thing" she says coldly. "I was just hanging out with Alex" I make a face at her that means helllllooo remember cute math class guy??? She makes a face back that I know means she understands, but for reasons I don't know yet, she's not happy about it.

Our little staring contest was disrupted when we were hurried to class. Now I'm stuck staring at the back of Alex's head. I catch him looking back at me and I force a smile. As happy as I should be right now, I can't shake the look that my best friend gave me just 15 minutes earlier. She looked completely disgusted.
