Chapter 38: Assassin Trial

During 3 days, Khiry & the others are gathering a lot of eggs, yeast, spices, Milk (Bith Cow & Goat), & many mushroom types. He still runs some errands, but he has finished. He has even made 8 barrels of wine, using fresh grapes & yeast. After the third day, Khiry is sleeping in bed, spooning Atalanta. However, a voice is calling him telepathically.

Mirellia(Mind): Assassin... 

Khiry stirred in his sleep but woke up.

Khiry(Mind): Who..?

Mirellia(Mind): Sorry to wake you up, but Shield Hero is now awake.

Khiry then quickly sits up, only to see that Atalanta is sleeping. Khiry then got dressed & quickly show up to the others in Naofumi's room.

Naofumi: Khiry.

Khiry: Naofumi. I am glad you're alive.

Mirellia: I was taking part in an international forum on fighting the upcoming waves, & was thus away from Melromarc when it happened. The forum decided that the major nations would each summon one hero & one servant & fight the waves together. During the time I summon your friend as my servant, Melormarc has already summoned all four cardinal heroes.

Khiry: The nations are pretty pissed at the events, so Master was trying to calm the leaders.

Naofumi: So that trash king & slut princess did it all on their own?

Mirellia: Of course, I tried to keep them on a leash by leaving things to a lord I truly trusted while I was away. However...

Khiry: He died, didn't he?

Melty: He was the lord of Seyaette.

Naofumi: Seyaette? I see.

Khiry: Melty, I have noticed this.

Melty then turned to Khiry.

Khiry: You talked differently when your mother is here.

Melty: Wh-what can I do? I'm in her Majesty's presence!

Khiry then pats Melty on her head. 

Khiry: She may be the queen, but she is your mother. That goes first.

Mirellia then chuckled.

Mirellia: It please me greatly to see a new side of you, Melty. Make sure to stay in Iwatani-sama's good grace.

Melty: Mother!

Naofumi: So? Why was I, The Shield Hero, the only one who put through all that crap?

Mirellia: Aultcray already hated the Shield Hero for a certain reason. The Three Heroes Church took advantages of that to manipulate him.

Naofumi: He hated the previous Shield Hero, then? What the hell does this have to do with me?

Khiry: It doesn't. 

Everybody then looked at Khiry.

Khiry: It is not you that he hates. He just hated anyone who bore the title, "Shield Hero." It could anyone: Someone from the past, a different present, or me, he still has that grudge & will use his power to make anyone's life, a living hell.

Mirellia: Even Malty joined in to ensnare you.

Naofumi: Things would've gone very differently if I'd been summoned to another country, huh?
