Chapter 23

Kristen POV *night before*

After all day without seeing them, Ross and Elisa finally walk into the main room.

"Its about time, what took so long?" I asked.

"I uh...showed Ross one last move for when we go into combat." She answered and I could've sworn I saw Ross look at her as if she wasn't telling the truth.

"Well, Riker told us about my father being in the woods." I brought up.

"Yeah, his plan is to take tomorrow near midnight. He wants to keep me and Kristen alive."

"You have any idea why?" I asked curiously.

"Yeah, that is one thing that I never could figure out myself. Do you know?" Emily asked too.

Riker and Ross both looked at her, expecting an answer. Why was it she had to answer everything? Seems very suspicious. "I have no idea, I guess it could be our strength. I'm going to bed, we all need our energy especially since now we know when they're attacking." She said walking to her room with Ross following.

Once the door closed, I had to see what was going on. I was heading toward the door when Riker stopped me.

"What are you doing?" Riker asked, sitting on the couch.

"Just going to the bathroom." I lied.

After turning that corner, I put my ear to the door to listen.

I guess I got there in a middle of the conversation because I only heard pieces.

"......you....are family........something happens.......never know." I heard what sounded like Ross' voice. Damn, why couldn't he speak just a little louder so it was more clear to what was going on.

"Yeah well, if something were to happen she wouldn't be as upset as she would be if she knew. If anything was to happen, the only person to be upset would be you." Elisa spoke more clearly, thankfully.

"You're wrong."

"What? You wouldn't be upset?"

"No, I would be destroyed. But, when you got stabbed, everyone was hurting. Yes, I was the most damaged, but everyone else was upset that you were hurt. Imagine how they'd act if you were dead."

"We're already dead." I heard mumbling for a bit until Elisa spoke again. "I'm going to sleep, no more talking about this."

"But Elisa, why do you..." Ross started.

"Ross I said no more talking about it." She said sternly.

After that there was no more talking. I stood back, developing what they said and why they were hiding it. Riker must've known too because the way he was acting too. I started to head back to the living room and get some sleep.

What stuck out most was what I kind of heard Ross say at the beginning.

'Family'And 'neverknow'

Well, there was no way she was related to the boys and she has explained how she met Emily after her parents dying. So all that's left is.......

Suddenly, it clicked from before.

"He wants to keep me and Kristen alive."

"Yeah, that is one thing that I never could figure out myself."

" ......you..TWO..are family.......SHE'LL..never know."

I stood still as my jaw dropped.
