Riker held me tight as I cried into his chest. "Babe, I'm pretty sure everything is alright, but we have to go see everything that happened." I just nodded my head, still crying into his chest. I pulled back and Riker wiped my last few tears away with his thumb. "God, I hate seeing you cry." He helped me get a few things and we made our way to my car before heading to the hospital.

*At the hospital*

We walked through the double doors and went to the front desk. The receptionist told us that we had to stay in the waiting room until the doctor came out to us. Not too long after, for some reason, two detectives started talking to the receptionist. I looked over at Riker and he look terrified.

I leaned over and whispered, "Why do you look as if you seen a ghost?"

"Oh, I'm not really good with detectives, they've been on the case of finding vampires since there has been a few killings out of nowhere. It's not us though, but they won't leave the topic." He whispered back.

The detectives turned around and looked at us and I felt Riker shift uncomfortably beside me. They walked towards us and sat in the seats directly across from us. I took a sharp breath, hoping they didn't know about Riker.

"Kristen Bailey, I'm detective Harris and this is detective Blake. We have a few things to talk to you two about." The woman detective said.

"W-what about?"

Detective Harris took a shaky breath, "About your mother, she....."

My eyes widened and a lump started to form in my throat, "What happened?" My voice cracked at the end.

Harris looked at her partner and looked back at me, "I'm sorry dear, but your mother didn't make it. It's a miracle that we got her to the hospital and got the baby in time."

I started to cry, I wanted to lose it, but I had to let Harris continue. "So, the baby survived?"

"Yea, but that's not mainly why we are talking to you. It wasn't an accidental car crash. Jason was driving and someone shot him from a distance. Someone wanted them to crash and get away with it. Jason is in a coma and possibly won't wake up for quite sometime. Since none of them are around, you will have to give the baby a name and take care of it until Jason awakes, now until then we will be glad to help with fundings. Do you think you can handle the house by yourself or is there someone who could help you?" You could tell she was trying to speed through this so she didn't break down.

Riker started talking, "Me and my family could help, she only lives across the street."

"And who are you?" Detective Blake asked.

"Uhm, I'm her boyfriend."

Harris looked at me, "Would that be okay with you?"

"Yes, of course." I said with tears trickling down my face.

"Alright, we'll be back later tonight at your house for any further questions, for now go see the doctor and fill out the files for the baby." She said getting up.

Me and Riker got up and went to the baby room to find my mom's baby in one of the baby bed things. The doctor looked at us and gave us a sympathetic smile, "Alright, you two will have to fill out the birth certificate and stuff. I will leave you alone until you finish."

We nodded our heads as he gave us the things and left the room. Riker looked at me, "Well first things first, what will we name him, well what will you name......him?" He was kind of silent, waiting for an answer. I looked at the small baby in the bed, rattling for a name.

Then an idea came to my head, "How about Ryder, Ryder Anthony?"

Riker smiled, knowing I used his middle name. "Sure, you know Ryder was what I wanted to name my son, but now because of who I am, I actually can't have children. None of us can."

"That's why I named him that, you're going to be helping me out so he kind of will be yours." He looked at me and the smile grew wider, making mine do the same. That's the thing with Riker, he could help bring out my smile in the worse of times.

He grabbed the pen and started filling out the birth certificate info and he paused, "Would I put Bailey as the last name?"

I shook my head, "Go ahead and put Lynch, it sounds better in my book. And while your at it, sign your name for it and I'll put mine."

We got all the information written down and the doctor came back in, saying we could go home. When I opened up my front door, we were greeted by two people, Ross and Elisa. Ross' eyes widened like a child on Christmas Day when he saw Riker carrying Ryder.

"Is that a baby?" He said walking towards Riker.

"It sure is." Riker and Ross sat on the couch next to the baby carrier and started playing with Ryder.

Elisa just stood by the patio door and watched Ross. There was hurt in her eyes. I walked over to her and grabbed her hand, before leading her to the kitchen. When we finally got in there, she started speaking.

"Ever since we met, all Ross talked about was how he wanted a great future with children surrounding him and how great of a parent he would be. Then I think about how after everything he did for me, I can't give him the one thing he wants more in life. So before, I thought that maybe it didn't matter because he would find someone else and make a happy family with her, but that night I completely took it away from him. He is now stuck with me and every time there is a child involved, he is so happy and he never really got the memo that he now can't have kids because of me and it hurts me every damn time." Elisa explained not realizing that with every word she broke down more and got louder until she finally started crying on my shoulder.

In the middle of Elisa's speech, Ross had walked in and was behind her, listening to everything she said. "Elisa, the one thing I want more in life is to be with you." Elisa turned around and saw Ross standing there. "Yes, having children would be great, but I chose everything that happened. Don't you remember the song I made for you?

'Everything I see dont compare to you.'

'Baby, you're the greatest. And I got everything to lose.'

'I just wanna be with you.'

'I'd give it all up if I can't be you.'

'All this stuff sucks if I can't be with you.'

'The sun don't shine, the sky ain't blue if I can't be with you.'

'You're the kind they can't replace.'"

He started saying some of the quotes from their song If I Can't Be With You. Then he started talking again. "You might not realize this, but you are the best thing that happened to me." Elisa looked down and started playing with her grey sweater sleeves. Ross walked up to her and picked her chin back up with his finger. "I love you and nothing else more." He leaned down and kissed her.

That's when I just realized the huge height difference, she only went to his chest, right under his neck. Gosh, they really needed each other more than anything else. Like what I said about Riker, how he can make me smile in worse times, that's what Ross did for Elisa.

Just then, the doorbell rang and I walked over to answer it.

I opened the door and looked up, "Oh, uhh hi."
