I heard our doorbell ring and I hurried to the mirror to check myself out again. I slowly walked down the stairs, hoping not to make a fool of myself. I walked into the living room to reveal all the Lynchs. All of them seemed happy to see me and greeted me with hugs. Riker, Ross, and some girl Ross was with seemed to be very distant. They stayed behind everyone else and didn't bother to greet anyone in my family. The girl had curly dirty blonde hair and dark blue eyes. All three of them were dressed in dark colors. I was about to say something before before Stormie did.
"Hey, why don't you three actually introduce yourselves?" She gestured to them.
They all walked to me and simply said their names as if they were taking attendance.
"Riker."
"Ross."
At first the girl looked at me like she already despised me. "Elisa." Ross wrapped his arm around her waist as she leaned into him.
I looked down to the ground. "Kristen."
There was an awkward silence until Mom said dinner was ready. Rydel stopped me before we went into the kitchen.
"Hey, don't mind them, they have been through a lot and they rarely smile anymore."
"Well, Elisa seems as if she already hates me."
"Yea, it takes time before she gets used to someone. She has been through way more than you could ever imagine. The only time you would usually see a genuine sile from her is when she is with Ross. Once she gets to know you and know she can actually trust you, she'll treat you as if you're her sister." She smiled at me and I smiled back.
"Girls, hurry up the food is getting cold." Stormie said, poking her head in the door way.
"Okay mom." Rydel said and we both walked into the dining room.
There were two seats left next to each other. Rydel and I sat beside each other. Across from me was Riker, Elisa sat across from Rydel, next to Riker and Ross was beside her with Ryland across from him. On the other side of me was my mom with Stormie across from her and Mark sat next to Stormie while Rocky sat across from him. Jason had to stay in work late.
As I ate, I could've sworn I felt someone's eyes on me. I looked up and Riker quickly looked to his side like he was talking to Elisa. After that, it was really quiet until Stormie spoke.
"Kristen, will you be going to school this year?"
"Umm....yea. When does it start?"
"Oh, it starts next month on the 14th! We get our schedules next week, I hope we have the same classes together!" Rydel squealed.
I smiled, " I do too."
We all went to finishing our dinner as everyone was chatting about different things. Riker, Ross, and Elisa stayed silent through out the whole thing. Rydel suggested I could stay the night at her house and our parents agreed. We went upstairs to my room to get some clothes. Rydel practically dragged Elisa up because she wanted her to finally start talking. It took Rydel a while, but eventually they both walked through the door. I was looking in my closet at the many clothes in there. Elisa toom one glance inside my closet and quietly laughed to herself.
"I remember when I was like that. All these bright colors and such, that goes away once you're around people like me and things happen. Then you don't see any color in the world." Elisa said talking directly to me.
"Elisa, cut it out." Rydel scolded.
She put her hands in defense, "I'm going downstairs to Ross." After that she left.
