Halloween has got to be my favorite holiday. The pumpkin scented candles, dressing up like a monster, watching scary movies with your friends and also watching as the leaves outside turn orange.
Everything should be perfect. It was afterall the day before Halloween. But the aching feeling in my lower stomach would make sure that it couldn't be perfect.
I was laying on my couch, feeling sorry for myself. The old 'Halloween' movie was playing on tv. I watched as Michael Myers stalked the young babysitter.
I wish I hadn't gotten my period right now. And also that my stomach wouldn't hurt so much. I groaned as the cramps reminded me of their presence.
My familiar ringtone made me look up at my phone. I picked it up and without looking, answered the call and pressed the phone against my ear.
"What?" I answered, clearly annoyed. It wasn't the callers fault that I was annoyed and in pain. I know that.
"Oh, uhm I'm sorry, am I bothering you?" He answered, I could hear the insecurity coming from him. I took the phone from my ear too look at who had called.
Ethan Landry.
"I'm sorry, Ethan. I'm just... My stomach is hurting really bad. You know, that time of the month, so I'm a little easily annoyed." I said, not worrying about if it was 'too much information'. Periods is normal and I'm not gonna dance ariund the subject.
"Oh," Ethan simply answered. Ethan was sweet, a friend of mine. We had common friends and had met that way, all those months ago. After a short moment of silence, he cleared his throat and continued talking. "The group are going to watch a horror movie together, since halloween is tomorrow. Which you already knows. And, uhm, I thought that I wanted to invite you? To join? To join us, I mean?"
I smiled at the invitation.
"Thanks, but my stomach is killing me. I'm not really feeling like walking that much. I hope you guys have a nice evening."
"Oh, yeah you too!" Ethan answered, and then I hung up the phone.
My gaze returned to the tv, where a young teenage girl was being brutally murdered. Ah, halloween.
About half an hour later, the movie was soon about to wrap up with the main character fighting for her survival. A careful knock on the door made me jump and I paused the movie, freezing the scene.
I stood up and walked to the door. Why would someone be behind my door, at this late hour?
As the door swung open, a brown haired boy could be seen. He was wearing his typical blue shirt with a jacket over. In his hand he held a paper bag.
"Hi," He said and took a short moment to look at me. Then it was as if he remembered his mission, and he lifted up the bag. "I went out and bought some things. I bought a few different chocolate, your favorite ice cream and also, uhm, pads."
He handed the bag over and I took it happily, and looked in it. That is so sweet of him? He had no obligation to do that. I looked up at him.
"I don't really know anything about pads so I bought, like, four different kinds." He ran his hand through his curly hair.
"Oh, you didn't have to do this Ethan." I said, still not over the surprise. He shrugged.
"Yeah I know, but I wanted to."
"Thank you, I really appreciate it." I said while smiling, which also made Ethan smile.
"No problem. I should probably go now." He said, doing a little wave before taking a step back.
Me and Ethan has never really talked just the two of us. It has always been in the bigger group.
"Ethan..." I said, which made him freeze in his step. "I'm rewatching classic halloween movies. Do you want to join me? We can share the ice cream." I offered.
Ethan blinked.
"Yes. Of course, if you want me to? I would really like that." He said and started to walk closer to me. I stepped back and allowed him in to my apartment.
Maybe this halloween would be perfect as well, thanks to him.
