Numb. That's the easiest way to describe how I'm feeling right now. Empty. I looked down at my hands and saw the blood stains on my hands and jeans. It wasn't my blood. It was Anikas, as I'd tried to save her from her horrible end.
I breathed in quickly, trying to remind myself to keep breathing. We were sitting outside of the apartment, on the ambulance. Mindy had a blanket, Chad was angry. I could see it on his face. Tara and Sam looked numb as well. Ghostface killed Anika and Quinn right in front of us. They didn't deserve to die like that. No one does. Anikas screams will forever be etched onto my memories.
Suddenly I noticed that I was breathing too quickly. I couldn't stop hyperventilating. The intense anxiety had my heartbeat racing. I was crying. Tears streamed down my face as I fought to get some air into my lungs.
"Hey, hey Y/n it's okay. You survived." Chad sat down beside me and pulled me into his chest. He pulled me into a well needed hug and I could feel him stroke my back. It was comforting. To have my head against his chest, his hand on my back.
"But they didn't." I told him, still crying into his shirt. I could feel him lean his head against mine. We were finding comfort in each other, in that we had both seen the same thing.
Then I could feel Chad tense up. I sat up straighter and looked at where Chad was looking, and saw Ethan. The brunette ducked under the police tape and was approaching us, while looking at the building. Then he turned his head, and saw me and Chad. He saw the lack of space between me and Chad and Ethan narrowed his eyes.
"Chad?" Ethan said, looking at us with confusion written over his face. I looked down at the ground. Chad suddenly got up and quickly walked up to Ethan, grabbing a hold of his collar and pushing him up against the car. I widened my eyes in surprise, what is he doing?
"Where were you?" Chad demanded to know.
"What? When?" Ethan quickly responded, confused. I jumped up.
"Chad, Ethan wouldn't do this-" I said, but Chad ignored me and continued to ask Ethan.
"Last night!"
"What?" Ethan said, his gaze darted between Chad and me. "I had econ, you know this!"
"Bullshit, man! You disappear and my sister and Y/n almost get killed."
"Dude, I was in a study hall with a hundred other people." Ethan then looked at me, like it was more important to him that I believed him. "You can ask any of them."
"Chad, please let him go. He has an alibi." I pleaded with him. Chad thought about it for a short second.
"Fuck, man." He said, releasing Ethan. Chad then turned towards me, shook his head and walked back to the ambulance.
I looked up at Ethan who still had an confused look on his face. He looked me up and down, seeing the blood on my clothes.
"Are you okay, Y/n?" He said, taking a step closer. I instinctively took one back, which Ethan noticed because he stopped moving. Then I saw a flash of hurt in his brown eyes. "Are... Are you afraid of me?" He asked. I blinked, trying to think.
"No... But you weren't here." I said quietly.
"Y/n, I had econ!" He exclaimed. "I need you to believe me." He said, pleading. I meet his gaze, still unsure of how I felt.
"Yeah, I believe you." I lied. I don't believe anyone anymore. Ethan nodded, believing my lie. Or maybe choosing not to fight it.
"I'm so sorry."
"It's not your fault." I answered, and tried to smile lightly.
"It feels like my fault." Ethan said quietly.
"It isn't."
Ethan carefully took a step closer. This time I didn't move back. He was observing me, looking at the blood that had stained my clothes.
"The blood isn't mine." I said, answering a question he never told. Thinking about the blood made me think about Anika and Quinn again. That I failed to protect them.
"I'm gonna go back to Chad." I explained.
Ethan was quiet for a long time. Then he sighed, and ran a hand through his hair.
"Yeah, of course. Chad."
I blinked.
"What? Why are you saying his name like that?" I asked, confused about the change of tone.
He shrugged and muttered something about nothing. I sighed and turned around to leave when Ethan suddenly grabbed hold of my wrist.
"Wait-" He started but I didn't let him finish. I yanked it back and stared at him. Not in anger, but in fear. I was scared. He saw that, the fear in my eyes. He froze in place.
"I'm sorry-" He repeated, but I had already left him standing there.
