Katoria Halim
"Myri, I know you don't want to make this move, but we gotta. It's nothing left in Queens for us, and you know I'm telling you real." My mother stood in my doorway with her arms folded. I was supposed to have all my stuff packed by now, and I only had one suitcase filled. I looked at her and sighed."Alright, I'm on it now." I said looking at her waiting to leave. She mumbled something but I didn't care enough to ask her to repeat herself, this time.
I looked around my room. It's not like I have friends that I'll miss or anything. I just like the way things are around here. Well, not the violence, but I've learned to deal with it.
I got off of my bed and began to pack things. I put most of my clothes in a big trash bag, careful to put anything I don't want in another one to give away. All in all, it took me almost an hour to get everything I wanted to take with me together.
My dad has a brother that's supposed to be picking us up. We're moving to Philadelphia,Pennsylvania. From here, it's only about a two hour drive, so I guess I won't get too annoyed being in a car for so long.
"Myri, c'mon! The moving truck is here!" My mother shouted and I sighed, annoyed. My room is not that far away from the living room. What is she even yelling for?
I got up and walked out of my room and into the living room the see the door wide open. I walked out and saw the back of the moving truck open.
"You're telling me that if I want you guys to help us, I gotta pay?" My mother asked with her hands on her hips. I shook my head and went back inside. Her arguing with them isn't going to get anything done, so I might as well start by myself.
A couple boxes later, she finally started to help me. We had to carry a few together because they were so heavy. My mother sold our television so she could just buy a better one in Philly, which doesn't make any sense to me by the way.
I heard a deep voice while I went back in to get another box. I turned to see my uncle coming in.
"Hey family." He said hugging me but once he saw I didn't hug him back, he let go and chuckled.
"You act just like Kennon." He said and I moved away from him. Kennon is my father's name. I didn't like anyone talking about Dad, because it'd put me in a depressed mood. I missed him so much.
"Tasha, y'all can stop. I got the rest." He said talking to my mother. She nodded and looked towards me. I looked back at her confused.
"Go show your uncle where our rooms are." She said nodding towards the back with her head and I shook my head no.
"Well, why not?" She asked.
"I only met this man once before in my life. I'm not going anywhere alone with him." I said lowly, but loud enough so they both could here. My uncle chuckled and spoke.
"It's okay, Tasha. I'll find them." He said looking at me before walking off to the back. I began to feel irritated, so I grabbed my purse that was on the couch and looked through to see if I had everything I needed.
I then looked at the house once more before walking out and getting in my uncle's black truck. My mother walked out and got in the front seat. This truck was so spacious and it looked expensive.
"Why do you have to have an attitude about everything, Katoria?" My mother asked. I looked at her in the review mirror before shaking my head and pulling my earphones out of my purse. I plugged them in and turned on music getting comfortable. I wanted this ride to be as peaceful as possible.
