Katoria Halim
Xae's neighborhood was ghetto and it seemed like people were outside everywhere. People were staring into my mother's car as we passed by.

We pulled up and I waited until she stopped to unbuckled my seat belt. I put my phone, headphones and charger in my purse and then got out. There were people on the front porch, some staring at me and some having conversations.

"Who are you, pretty little lady?" An older woman came up to me. I backed up and just looked. Who is she and why is she trying to hug me? I thought.

"I'm sorry, ma'am. This is my daughter, Katoria. I'm Tasha." My mom said coming up behind me. I obviously didn't want to be introduced, so why would she even do that?

I walked away from the two and went inside. I saw Xae, Marlo, and other boys sitting on the carpet talking to each other. I felt so out of place.

"Wassup, family?" Marlo said getting up and hugging me tight.

"Nigga." I said lowly. He knows I don't like when he touches me.

Xae and the other boys laughed.

"This our mean ass cousin, Katoria. Katoria, this Darren and Jarret, just some friends." Xae said. I nodded and looked at them.

They looked like trouble if that made any sense.

"Where's your dad?" I asked Marlo.

"In the back, but you don't need to be out there with all them grown men. Stay in here." He said. I mugged him and sat down in a chair and pulled my phone out.

They started talking to each other again so I put my headphones in and started listening to music and day dream.

That didn't last long because in walked Alexus and one of her friends I see her with a school. She looked at me and rolled her eyes and I gladly returned the favor.

First of all, this outfit she has on is completely inappropriate. She came in a sundress that was way too tight and her friend was dressed even worse in a pair of high waist shorts and a green crop top. Where did they think they were going? I thought.

My music was still up, so I couldn't hear what they were saying, but I didn't care to know really. I saw Uncle Ty come in the kitchen and I took my earphones out then got up and surprised him by hugging him.

He's really starting to remind of my dad more and more, and I've been wanting to bond with him but I don't know how and plus he's always busy.

"Hey, kid. Glad you made it." He said. I smiled small and nodded.

"I just wanted the food. I'm not really into football." I said shrugging. He chuckled and put his arm around my neck.

"Well, I usually don't start letting people eat until the game start, but I guess I could slide you a piece." He said and I started smiling.

"Thanks." I said lowly.

"Myriana!" I heard my mom yell.

Uncle Ty let me go and I walked to the front and she gestured me to go outside.

"Yes?" I asked and we reached her car.

"We have to go, now." She said.

"Why? We just got here, Ma."

"I know, but we really have to go. It's important."

"Ma, what's wrong?"

"Myri, go get your stuff. We gotta go-"

"Katoria!" A deep voice said and I looked towards a brown truck and couldn't believe my eyes. There was my father standing in front of it looking at me.
