CHAPTER THREE
We Didn't Do It For The Fame Or The Glory

Alyssa never went to any of the shows Steve did, mainly because she just didn't want to. Peggy was about to go up to Steve first, but was held back by Colonel Phillips. Alyssa hesitantly walked over to Steve, whose back was facing her, while he was drawing in the rain.

She sat down beside him, and he looked at her confused. "The drawing's good." She complimented.

Alyssa wasn't the best at giving or receiving compliments. But she was trying. Steve was a good person, she knew that's why Erskine chose him. He had a good heart.

"Peggy wanted to talk to you, but Phillips held her back for a minute... oh, there she is! Keep up the drawing. You have talent." She said, starting to walk away.

"How do you do it?"

"How do I do what?" She asked, crossing her arms.

Steve sighed. "How do you fly a plane and not crash every time? How do you know what decisions are right?" He asked her.

Alyssa shrugged. "When I'm reckless and impulsive, I get a survival instinct, I go into a different mindset when I'm flying. As for knowing the decision you make is right? You don't. You never know, no matter how much research or thought goes into it. Life is trial and error, Rogers." She explained, walking away shortly after.

While she was under the tent that blocked out some of the rain from herself, soldiers, and Colonel Phillips, she watched as Steve and Peggy walked into the tent. "Well, if it isn't the Star-Spangled Man With A Plan. What's your plan today?" Colonel Phillips wondered sarcastically.

"I need the casualty list from Azzano." Steve requested in a hurry.

It made Alyssa confused as to why someone would need the list so badly.

"You don't get to give me orders, son."

"I just need one name, Sergeant James Barnes from the 107th." Steve rushed out. Oh, that's why.

Colonel Phillips pointed a pen at Peggy, "you and I are gonna have a conversation later that you won't enjoy."

"Please tell me if he's alive, sir. B-A-R..." Steve started, getting cut off by Phillips.

"I can spell. I have signed more of these condolence letters today than I care to count. But the name does sound familiar. I'm sorry." Colonel Phillips responded.

Steve looked like a sad, kicked puppy upon hearing those words. "What about the others? Are you planning a rescue mission?" He wondered.

"Yes, it's called 'winning the war'."

"But if you know where they are, why not at least—"

"They're thirty miles behind the lines through some of the most heavily fortified territory in Europe. We'd lose more than we'd save. But I don't expect you to understand that because you're a chorus girl." Colonel Phillips told him.

"I think I understand just fine." Steve replied in a dull tone.

"Well, then understand it somewhere else. If I read the posters correctly, you got someplace to be in thirty minutes."

"Yes, sir. I do." Steve said, leaving.

Colonel Phillips knew somewhat of what was racing through both Alyssa and Peggy's heads. "If you have something to say, right now is the perfect time to keep it to yourself." He told them.

They both decided they'd help Steve, and Alyssa was sure as hell going to help save the soldiers and not sit on the sidelines.
