CHAPTER FIVE
So I'm Just A Dead Man Walking Tonight"These are the weapon factories we know about. Sergeant Barnes said that HYDRA shipped all the parts to another facility that isn't on this map." Steve told them.
"Agent Carter, coordinate with MI6. I want every Allied eyeball looking for that main HYDRA base." Colonel Phillips told Peggy.
"What about us?" She asked.
"We are going to set a fire under Johann Schmidt's ass. What do you say, Rogers? It's your map. You think you can wipe HYDRA off it?" Colonel Phillips questioned.
"Yes, sir. I'll need a team." Steve answered.
"We're already putting together the best men." Colonel Phillips responded.
"With all due respect, sir, so am I."

Everyone was at the bar. Alyssa walked in wearing her black trench coat, and sat down at the bar. She smiled upon taking a sip of whiskey.
She watched Steve walk over to both her and Bucky. "See, I told you. They're all idiots." Bucky said to Steve.
"How about you? You ready to follow Captain America into the jaws of death?" Steve asked Bucky.
"Hell, no. That little guy from Brooklyn who was too dumb to not run away from a fight. I'm following him."
Steve looked at Alyssa, "what about you?"
"It's not like I have anyone back home... so hell yes." The statement made by Alyssa caused Steve to furrow his brows.
In the short time that he'd known her, he knew that she wanted nothing more than to just go back to England. But now that she was saying that she had no one back home, why was she so determined? Perhaps it was the fact that it was where she was raised, but he wondered if she ever got lonely, or maybe there was another reason that he couldn't think of. It was sad how people were so ready to defend their country or save someone by sacrificing themselves.
Alyssa downed her whiskey, getting a partial surprised reaction from Bucky. She ordered another. Luckily, for Alyssa, the drunk daze wore off quickly, and the toxins somehow drained from her body faster than the average population. She downed the second one in under three seconds.
She didn't bother listening to Steve or Bucky talk to Peggy. Peggy wore a red dress that looked beautiful on her, at least that's what Alyssa thought. But she didn't pay much mind to anything but her own thoughts, and that might be what could destroy her later on.
"I know it's not my place—"
"Then don't ask or say anything." Alyssa said to Bucky, not realising she was walking away from her seat at the bar counter.
He scoffed, "believe it or not, I'm not that bad of a person."
Alyssa rose a brow, leaning against the wall. She cocked her head, "I never said you were a bad person, I just don't like talking to people or being around people." She explained, taking a slower sip of her whiskey.
"I never thanked you for helping Steve save my life, and the others' lives, even though half of them are idiots."
"You mean all of them?" She questioned.
Bucky laughed, nodding, taking a sip of his beer. "Yeah... really, thanks." He thanked her again.
Alyssa shook her head, "it was better than spending another day at the base camp." It wasn't a lie, it was the truth.
"I owe you my life." He said.
She assumed he was stretching it a bit far, for no reason, causing her to just scoff. "Let's not go that far. How about, if someone's shooting at me continuously and you're there, you shoot the person shooting?"
"Deal." He held his hand out to shake her hand. She sighed, shaking his hand in return.
Both turned to look in the direction of Steve and Peggy. "Peggy looks beautiful." She said out loud, quietly.
He agreed.
"I'd probably go on a date with her." She whispered, stunning Bucky for a moment. He looked at her, about to question. "Women are stunning, and I rarely find a man attractive, but once in a while they are there." She explained.
He shrugged, almost agreeing with her statement, like he understood her feelings.
Alyssa had to admit, she didn't hate Bucky as much as she thought she would. It confused her, but she understood why Steve would want to save him.
"You never did tell me why you took this job here." Bucky said.
"That would be because I just met you. But, I took it because it was extra money in my pocket. I am starting to question why I did accept it though, America is shit. Don't get me wrong, back home can be shit, but it's still better." Alyssa responded. "And I'm assuming you want to ask more questions?" He nodded.
"Why a pilot? Out of the different branches." He asked.
"I always felt better, more free up there, like my freedom always belonged up there." She answered. Alyssa looked at him, "you know, you're not terrible."
"Ah ladies and gentlemen, Alyssa Collins approves." Bucky said, more to just them. "You're not so bad yourself, Alyssa."
While Alyssa and Peggy used to be close as friends, when Peggy moved, they drifted apart, more than Alyssa cared to like, it stopped. Alyssa didn't have anyone else to call a friend or even an acquaintance. In that moment, Alyssa knew she had a new one. But this wasn't a peaceful world, it was a cruel one, much like decades to come would feel. Something would happen to make all of the peace crumble, because after all, this was a war. And wars are not parallel to peace in any way, shape or form.
And here we have a brotp between Alyssa and Bucky
