CHAPTER SIX
But We Went Down In History

The next morning, Alyssa walked up to the small hangar with a small smirk on her face. Bucky walked up beside her, looking up at the plane, then at her. "Are you a good pilot?" He asked.

She cocked her head, "I can hold my own." She responded, climbing into the cockpit.

She looked to the left to see Bucky standing there giving her a thumbs up when she started the engine, in return, Alyssa gave him a thumbs up to signal it was good.

Alyssa only stayed with the group for some areas, other times, she'd be by herself because the American air force was not large apparently, meaning she was the only pilot up there, except for the occasional enemy aircraft she shot down.

It was place after place, not that she minded. She wanted to be back in the air, so she was.

Finally, she was somewhere with snowy mountains for terrain. She managed to slow down the fighter jet without stopping the engine and give a thumbs up as a signal to Steve, who nodded. Alyssa made up for the lack of speed by flying a short distance incredibly fast and turned around so she wouldn't crash. Alyssa checked the radio system Howard gave her before her departure and heard the voices of Steve and Bucky.

"Remember when I made you ride the Cyclone at Coney Island?" Bucky asked.

"Yeah, and I threw up?" Steve questioned.

"This isn't payback, is it?" Bucky wondered.

"Now why would I do that?" Steve said, Alyssa saw him looking up.

They cut in and out as they walked towards a guy on the other radio that Alyssa wasn't connected to.

"What's going on?" Alyssa questioned, ready to fire if needed.

"Dr. Zola's on the train. HYDRA dispatcher gave him permission to open up the throttle." Bucky repeated.

"Can I shoot the son of a bitch?" Alyssa asked.

"Just wait for my signal, Lieutenant." Steve ordered.

"How's the view from down there?" Alyssa asked, smirking, knowing it would tick one of them off.

Bucky responded in a sarcastic tone, "I hate you."

"We only got about a 10 second window. You miss that window, we're bugs on a windshield." Steve told them. "Collins, are you–"

"Ready to fire when needed." She checked the radar and looked up ahead, cursing. "Cap, we've got more company." She informed, making everyone look at the enemy aircraft in the near distance.

"Probably told Zola already–" One of the soldiers muttered.

"I can distract the pilot so they're focused on shooting me down instead of communicating with Zola or anyone on the radio." Alyssa suggested, getting the go-ahead from Steve.

Alyssa flew faster than beforehand, on the nose of the enemy's plane, who flew straight up, but so did Alyssa. She had her hand on the controls to fire at will. The enemy swooped down normally, while Alyssa turned her plane to fly inverted. The enemy started shooting at her, to which she managed to dodge narrowly.

When she shot the enemy aircraft down, she didn't cheer. This was a war, you can't let your guard down for a second, because that might be the last thing you feel.

Alyssa was about to fly over to the train when she saw someone fall off of the train. Her eyebrows furrowed, "Cap?"

"Bucky's down..." He told her.

Alyssa let down her guard for one second and another enemy aircraft came flying in hot on her tail, prompting Alyssa to let out another strand of curse words, including, but not limited to: shit, bitch, asshole, jackass, motherfucker, fucking shit, bullshit, and many more.

And even though she managed to shoot down the enemy, they managed to start a fire in the engine, shutting it down. The plane she had managed to have ejection handles, so she went to pull the handles down, but they wouldn't budge. "Motherfucker."

And the plane just started to fall.

Alyssa and Bucky are the best duo in this book, and I will stand by that

And Alyssa got to fly a plane again for longer than five minutes
