So, I guess the story has five or six chapters left, but I'm trying not to rush things to the end...
Also, I'm writing this new story called The Rulebook. It's about a woman who works in a fashion magazine and puts her work before anything else in her life. At least until someone shows up and everything changes.
Now to the new chapter!
[NOT EDITED]
Chapter 23
I woke up the next day feeling like I had been hit by a truck. A huge one! My head throbbed and I couldn't open my eyes because the light was too strong.
Then I felt something on my arm and forced myself to look at it. When I finally opened my eyes, Mila was sitting next to me staring at my face with a worried look.
"Thank God you're alive!" She said raising her hands up. Her voice made my head hurt even more.
"Too loud!" I tried to protest but my voice came out too husky to be understood.
"Where were you last night?" My friend asked a little lower but still concerned.
I was trying to remember what happened last nigh. If I was correct, I was with her, Avery and Brianna at some place... Mario's bar!
Then I went to buy some drinks and Mila left me alone... Right.
Noah showed up and kept me company. But Mila never came back so we stayed there drinking until he asked if I wanted to take a walk.
No... That wasn't right.
We went to the Central Park and...
Oh my God!
I must have dreamed of it. That wouldn't be the first time. He would never do that. He didn't like me. Why would he kiss me? I was drunk and I must have dreamed of it.
"I can't believe you don't remember!" Mila said trying to hold her laughter. But I didn't find it funny.
"I do..." I told her but got confused. "I mean... I don't know." My head hurt and I couldn't think straight. Why all my hangovers have to be this strong?
"Can you at least tell me what Peter Johnson has to do with it?" She asked and for a second I felt all the pain fade away and my heart stop. He couldn't.
I got up from the bed slowly and sat down besides Mila. She gave me water and I drank trying to figure out what I was missing from last night.
But deep down I knew exactly what happened. I just couldn't believe it.
"He kissed me." I whispered more to myself than to my friend.
"I knew it!" She shouted back and got up abruptly making me twitch in pain. Why did she have to scream? "Sorry." Mila apologised realising my situation.
"What time is it?" I had to ask. The windows were closed but I could see the daylight.
"Past noon." Mila said nonchalantly and I had the urge to run into the bathroom but I knew I shouldn't do anything quickly so I just got up and sighed.
"I respect that you're in the middle of a hangover and all but sometime soon you'll have to tell me everything that happened between the two of you last night!" She came closer and pointed a finger in my direction so I knew she was being serious.
"Fine." I gave in and, almost crawling, I went to the bathroom and took a cold shower that made feel a lot better.
Changing into clean clothes, I decided it was time to establish what was real and what was just in my head. So I came back to my bed and closed my eyes.
