Chapter 21: Taking Things Into My Own Hands

I sat in my office chair staring at the book.

"Serenity.." I call out after a few minutes.

Serenity appears before me.

"Yes?" She questions.

"What if the book got destroyed?" I ask looking up from the book.

"Well, nothing, as long as no one finds out about it or me, nothing will happen, but your guidance would be destroyed along with it, why?"

I look down at the book.

"This is why" I say as I pick up the book and throw it into the fire place.

It's silent for a few minutes and then I speak up.

"It's all too easy with that book.." I say with a sigh.

"What do you mean?" She asks.

"I mean, life is just too easy for me with that book helping me like that, it's basically cheat codes for a video game.." I say with a small laugh.

"Are you sure that was a good idea? You won't have any guidance at all now.." She warns.

"I'm sure, it's about time I took things into my own hands. I can't go around getting all the answers to life. I need to grow up and accept that sometimes, you just have to do things on your own.." I say with certainty.

"Alright, If you're sure" she says before disappearing.

I now have to be extremely careful with what I say and do. Any little mistake could screw me up.

*knock knock*

"Come in" I say, jumping out of my thoughts.

"Mistress, you have a letter from the queen" Alexander says, handing me a letter with the queens seal on it.

"Thank you Alexander" I say with a small smile.

I sit at my desk and open the letter.

Dearest (Y/n),

I would like you to host a ball. It's time you get to know the some of the nobles. Be sure to invite Ciel Phantomhive and Alois Trancy. As I mentioned in my previous letter, you may have to make business deals or work on cases with them in the future.

I sigh softly.

"Alexander, prepare the mansion for a ball for tomorrow night" I say with a small smile.

"Yes Mistress" he says with a bow and then walks out.

This will be the first test. If I can't handle this ball without the book, I'm screwed.
