Today was finally Saturday. My brother and sister would be flying in from California and I could not wait. I took extra time cleaning my house completely from top to bottom, but now I was done. Mateo had texted me before he got on the plane, letting me know they would touch down at around 8. It's only 3. Maybe I should've woken up later.

I sat around for a couple of minutes before I decided to head to the store. I went to the little corner store- Jerry's like I usually did when I needed food. I bought tomatoes, onions, other various vegetables, chese, meat, and a tiny bag of flour.

As soon as I got home with my groceries, I began cooking. It seemed like it was too early, but I didn't want to wait. Plus I could just leave it on the stove till they got here.

I always thought I had a good memory. That was until today- when I tried to remake Melissa's recipe for lasagna, I realized I had no idea what to do. I was covered in flour, my noodles were dry, my onions were burning, and my  "diced" vegetables, if you could even call them that, looked absolutely ridiculous.

Everything was going wrong, and I had no idea how to fix it. Don't get me wrong, Melissa was a great cook, I was just completely hopel- Wait. Melissa! She can help me! I didn't have enough time to overthink the situation before I was clicking on her contact and calling her.

She answered after 2 rings. "Melissa! Thank god." I breathed out.

"Hey, what's goin' on? You sound out of breath. Is everything alright?" She asked.

"Oh, I'm fine. I'm just having a bit of a cooking emergency right now. Do you think you can come over and help me out?"

"Aww, kid, you had me worried." She laughed into the phone. "I'll be right over."

"Melissa. You are a lifesaver. What would I do without you." I smiled.

"Starve." She teased.

"Real funny. Mel" I playfully rolled my eyes.

"Shoot me your address. I'll be there soon."

"Thank you so so so much Mel." I hung up the phone and sent her a text with my address. I tried cleaning up a bit before she arrived, but she came quicker than i thought. I was barely getting flour off my face when she knocked on my door. "Coming!" I shouted from the bathroom.

I opened the door and she stared at me weirdly for a second, before bursting out into laughter.

"Melissa! It's not funny." I rolled my eyes and dragged her inside.

"I know, I know. I just-" She broke out into laughter again. I would've been more annoyed if she didn't look so good.  "Aww, don't pout, come here." She cupped my face and pulled me in for a soft kiss, something I still wasn't used to. She pulled away from me and dusted some of the flour off my cheeks.

"Now, you wanna tell me what happened here? You look a mess, Hon." She laughed softly.

"Well, I was trying to make the lasagna, like how you showed me that one time. But i just got everything wrong, and now it's all ruined. Maybe I should just scrap the whole thing, my siblings like pizza anyway." I sighed, taking my apron off.
