“We have to go out tonight. I know you don’t want to but we have to management said.” Demi said with a weak smile. I sighed and agreed. Out of all the days they want me to go out they just had to pick the day that would have been Courtney and I’s anniversary.

“Fine but where are we going?” I asked as I slowly put on my jacket.

“Well since we really don’t have to go somewhere big I was thinking that we could go to this little coffee shop on the out skirts of town. I was there yesterday and they had live entertainment. And they serve more than just coffee too.” I nodded my head and walked out to my car with Demi behind me. Being a gentleman I opened the door for her and went around to my side and got in.

“You know where it is so tell me.”  She agreed and gave me the direction’s to it. It was maybe a good fifteen minutes away so I just turned the radio on and drove.  The car was silent not that I minded but it just wasn’t an awkward silence. Ever since Courtney left my life has been pretty silent except for the interviews were I would have to talk about the break up and truthfully I didn’t know what to tell them.

‘She didn’t let me explain to her so she left me without an explanation?’ Yeah I’m sure the press would have a field day with that one because they never leave my life alone. Although management was happy about the press all this has been getting. Truthfully I’m just wondering if they want the press to put me as the new ‘man whore’ of the group. None of us are those things anyway so why try to make us something we’re not?

I sighed and continued my drive. I saw the sign or the café’ and turned into the lot.  We both got out and walked into the place. It was very open, with only a few people inside. I saw a little stage that had chairs and tables scattered around it. That’s where most of the people were at.  Since the place wasn’t that big the performers’ voice flowed through the speakers effortlessly.  It was a girl’s voice and it was like angels? I swear I have heard it before. Maybe on the radio or something?

“Come on, I ordered for us. Now we just pick somewhere to sit.” Demi whispered as she took my hand, interlaced our fingers, and led us to a table that was by the windows on the opposite side of the performance.

“She’s really good.” Demi said as she watched the girl perform ‘Not Over You.’ I had to admit she was but I just couldn’t get where I have heard that voice before. I agreed and waited as the guy behind the counter said our stuff was done. Another guy brought it over to us. We both thanked him and began eating. I had a freshly baked muffin, that was hug, and a black coffee, Demi had the same only I think she got tea.

“Okay this is the last song I have.” The performer said and at that point I knew exactly why she sounded so familiar. My head snapped in her direction as the next song started.

“All day staring at the ceiling, making friends with shadows on my wall.
All night hearing voices telling me I should get some sleep because tomorrow
might be good or something.”

I listened as the raw emotion came through in her voice. Everything that has happened over the past few weeks came through and you could practically feel the emotion, the pain in her voice. Both Demi and I were fascinated with her voice. In that moment I knew exactly what I had to do. I sat some money on the table before getting Demi and exiting the shop.

“Where are we going?” She asked once we were back in the car and buckled up.

“I need to do something I should have done a month ago when this stupid shit started.” I said as we were one the road again. I knew what I was going to say and I wasn’t leaving until I was single again. I think Demi knew what I was doing whenever we pulled into management’s parking lot. I got out of the car and zoomed inside, not even bothering with the receptionist who was yelling for me to stop but I wasn’t listening. I barged into Andrew’s office to find him not doing a single thing, perfect because he going to listen and he’s not going to have much of a choice in the matter.
