Chapter 8

Patty went into the Briar Patch where Chad was chiseling a piece of wood.

"Hi, Chad; what's cookin'?" said Patty.

"Hullo, Patty" said Chad with a smile.

"Listen. I need to talk to you about Marlyn" said Patty.

Chad sighed. "My Marlyn. Every time I think of her, I hear birds singing."

"Uh, Splash Mountain's in the woods, so we all hear birds singing no matter what we think about" said Patty.

Chad cocked his head to say "perhaps."

Patty sat in front of him on the bed and said "Anyway... listen. Marlyn's just using you to make money so she can buy a new car. Please don't chisel me!"

"Patty, what are you talking about?" said Chad in a shocked tone.

"I'm sorry, Chad, really. It kills me to say this, but... I heard her on the phone" said Patty.

"You heard wrong! Marlyn and I are so in love. When I'm near her, all I feel is my heart beating for her" Chad protested.

"But don't you see yours is the only beating heart?" said Patty.

"What I see is that I'm supportive of you and Jeremy, but... for some reason you can't be supportive of me and Marlyn" said Chad.

"Chaddy, don't be like that. I'm just trying to look out for you. You're my friend" said Patty.

"Well, friends support each other! Maybe you're not my friend" said Chad near tears.

Then he left the Briar Patch as Brer Rabbit and Burt came in.

"So? How'd it go with Brer Chad?" said Brer Rabbit.

"He said I'm not his friend" Patty sighed. "What are we gonna do about this Marlyn lady?"

"I got it!" said Brer Rabbit holding a big tennis racquet. "Next time I sees her, I gon' USO-pen her head!"

"Well, Brer Rabbit, as much as I'd like to get rid of her... I tghink we should take a different approach" said Burt. 

"I just wanna approach her lyin' face wit diss tennis racquet" said Brer Rabbit.

"No! Chad won't listen to me, so we need to show him what a lady Marlyn really is. Come on, boys!" said Patty.

As they left, Brer Rabbit tried to bring his tennis racquet.

"Brer Rabbit, leave the racquet" said Burt.

Brer Rabbit dropped the racquet and joined the other two.
