In Walmart, Chad sat alone in a corner drinking a milkshake. His face was matted with tear streaks and his shake had no straw so as not to remind himself of Marlyn.
"How could I have been so foolish? I let my heart get the better of me. My poor, aching, oblivious heart. I guess I'm just not the sort" Chad cried to himself.
Patty, Burt and Brer Rabbit found him just then.
"Hi, Chad" said Burt sadly.
"Hello" Chad sighed.
"I'm really sorry things turned out the way they did" Patty whispered.
"Me too" said Chad.
Brer Rabbit grabbed Chad's finger with his paw. "I hopes you ain't mad at us."
Chad held the rabbit's paw. "No, I'm not mad. I'm just... embarrassed."
He started to well up again as he said "How could I be so stupid?"
Patty rubbed Chad's shoulder to comfort him.
"You're not stupid" she said. "Marlyn's the stupid one for not appreciating you."
"Y'know, I should have known something was wrong when I went in for a kiss and she handed me her tools" Chad sobbed.
"I'd like ter teach dat lady a lesson! De drop frum Brer Fox's layah ter de Briah Patch is pretty high" said Brer Rabbit.
Chad gave a little giggle. "Thank you, Brer Rabbit."
"Are you gonna be okay?" said Burt.
"I suppose so, Burt. It just... really hurts" said Chad quietly.
"Hey. They don't call it a crush for nothing. But I know that one day, you'll find the perfect lady" said Patty.
"And I knows you two'll be happy togetta. As long as she can prove ter me dat she has a retirement account and doesn't sass back" said Brer Rabbit.
"Thank you all" said Chad with a smile.
Brer Rabbit hopped into Chad's arms, Patty wrapped her arms around his neck and Burt just patted his shoulder.
In the Laughing Place...
"Okay. I took fifty baths and I still can't get diss stinky sludge outta my fur!" said Brer Fox.
"That may be because the water comes from the same pipes" said Jeremy.
"Diss prank gets bettah and bettah" Brer Bear snickered.
"Hey. De joke's on you! I used yo' towel!" Brer Fox laughed.
Brer Bear clenched his fist to say "You'll be sorry".
"I must say, it was exciting to think there was real treasure here. Too bad it wasn't true" said Jeremy.
