Your POV
Last night was kinda wild, I had a little... well, "party" with my mate and so I forgot about the Nightshades meeting. It appeared that Wednesday had snuck into the library somehow. If I were there then she wouldn't have been found.
Anyways, today is Outreach Day, a day that I don't really enjoy much, the normie kids are always rude to us. I got Pilgrim World this year, it's not that I don't like it but still... It sucks.
We got on a bus and went to Jericho. I sat next to Marilyn in the front, my head leaning over and resting on her shoulder. My inner Alpha growled at me, something isn't right, I don't know what, but it keeps telling me that.
"Where you will go after we arrive?" I ask Marilyn.
"Maybe the Weathervane" she wraps her arm over my shoulder.
"Good. Stay there"
"Why? You going somewhere?" she sounds concerned.
"Yeah, just checking around"
"It's not your job to watch over Nevermore!"
"Don't worry, I won't get myself in danger." I kiss her hand.
I quickly use my powers on everyone to sneak away, heading straight to the forest nearby. I wolf out, I followed my instincts to a tent, it looks clean so maybe the owner is still around. I went closer to peek my head inside the tent, the horrid smell of that night when Rowan died attacked me. I backed off and covered my nose.
"Fuck! That smells terrible!"
I looked around to see a campfire and a few cans of food, according to its appearance, the monster must be a Hyde, maybe the Hyde is camping in here. But a Hyde usually has a master, so there are two people here.
I roamed the place to find any evidence, something caught my eye, a silver bowl with ashes in it. There are not many spells or curses that I know of that need a silver bowl, those I know are the slavery curse, the anti-luck curse, and the curse of Insomnia. With the current situation, it must be the slavery curse.
So if I'm right, the murderer snuck into Marilyn's room and found the book of curses and then used it on a Hyde. Hydes are not common, and the monster can also be a Shapeshifter. Unfortunately, I only know one person that can shapeshift, and that would be my aunt, Larissa.
I took my phone out to take a picture, suddenly, that damn sound came back, it was ringing right behind me. I covered my ears and turned back to try and find the source of the sound, but nothing was there, everything started to get blurry. I can't any longer. I ran back to town, but I could feel that someone was watching me.
As I'm running, a bullet... no, a needle was shot at me, I dodge it easily. I immediately went to the Weathervane after I got back to town.
"May? What are you doing here?" Larissa stood up from her seat when she saw me come in.
"The murderer is camping in the forest, I saw it! They even attacked me with a sound that can make my ears bleed, they shot a needle at me when I ran away!" I sit down with her.
"You weren't supposed to go out there!"
"If I don't then how can I catch them? They snuck into Nevermore and found the slavery curse, used it on someone, and used them to murder other people! I'm going to report this!"
"Wait, I don't remember any books in Nevermore that have those kinds of curses. That's Dark Magic!" she looked at me with wide eyes "Did your father give you that book!?"
"No!"
"Then how?... Is it Wednesday's?"
"No. Well, the book belongs to her family and I gave it to her after the intruder broke in"
"Then who brought the book? Dark Magic is forbidden in our school, anyone that uses it will be expelled immediately!" she leans over.
"What's moar important? The intruder that can kill us all, or the person that doesn't have the book at the moment?" I glare at her.
"Fine... but if I find out who did it, they will be expelled!"
We got in her car and she drove to the police to report the situation, Sheriff Galpin didn't really believe us, but he still sent a team to check. They found a tent but it belonged to another person, that person is dead. The man was killed about 3 months ago. All the things I saw, including the silver bowl, disappeared.
'The murderer is well prepared, they know how to play against me!'
I got back to the bus, sitting next to me is a soaked Wednesday.
"I heard you found something in the woods?" Wednesday asks.
"Yes, the murderer attacked me"
"Did you see their face?"
"No. They know how to weaken me. Maybe someone close to us. Also, they are not alone"
"Hm"
"Remember the book of curses that I gave you?"
"Yes"
"The slavery curse. The monster that killed Rowan is under that curse, they are either a Hyde or worse, a Shapeshifter"
"Interesting. I'll look into it"
The next day, the Joseph Crackstone monument opened, I have to say, my aunt looks really good next to a man that needs a ladder to reach her height. Height is always something that my family took pride in, that, and our alchemy skills. My father is an exception, he is just more interested in things that are magical and loved by my mother.
I sat in the front row, and couldn't stop yawning, this is so boring, Wednesday must be even moar bored than I am. If it wasn't because of my aunt's intention, I would've stayed in my room, rather than be here.
'What that smell? Gasoline and... gunpowder?'
A trail of gunpowder being burned in sight, it was leading towards the monument. An explosion happened soon after, people were screaming and running away, but Wednesday was still sitting in her chair, playing her cello, this time with a smirk on her face.
I turned to my aunt, she was running to Merlin and comforted her favorite student as she panicked. I stood up and left the place, my mate isn't here today so I have nothing to worry about, the fire will be taken care of by firefighters soon. I casually took out my phone and texted Marilyn to inform her about the situation here.
Maybe I should sneak out to search for that damn murderer again. They really get on my nerves.
