"You didn't tell me about her." Tommy exclaimed just a bit too loudly into his mic. He sounded strangely annoyed.

"What?" Why would Wilbur have told him about her. He was irritated.

"What?", repeated Tommy after him in a mocking manner. "Is she the reason you're quitting? You've been planing on leaving for a while without telling me and now you're all lovey dovey with a woman I've never heard of. Aaaaand all of a sudden, you're gonna work with her."

"Tom, it's not like that. I've barely spoken to her-" he was at a loss of words caused by the sudden outburst of his best friend.
"So you do admit that you like her?"
Did he like her? Not even a second later he had brushed that thought out of his mind. This wasn't what this was about.
What even was the matter with him? Usually, he was chill about everything.
"I- What no, I mean I've seen her only once. What's up with you? Why are you so upset. Aren't you like, supposed to be happy for me? I basically just got hired for a job!"

Silence. For a few seconds there was nothing but silence. Neither of them was saying one word, till Tom let out a sigh.

"I am happy for you, Wil. It's just that- you're gonna leave. I did not think it was gonna be this soon. You were literally the reason I've even made it as far. It is gonna be so different when you're gone. I don't even know what 'gone' means." The last few words could be described as nothing but whispering. His sadness was hard to miss.

Wilbur felt his heart ache. He didn't know what 'gone' meant either. He surely would have time to hang out with Tom at some point. That time would just be... limited. And what's with his other friends? Would they react and think the same way? How about the public? He didn't dare to think about it any longer.

For the first time the thought of leaving felt heavy on his chest. No, he'd stick with his plan. "You can call me anytime you need me, you know? It's not like I'm disappearing entirely. I'm not dissolving into thin air. Also, you can come over. By train, its not even an hour. I'll still be your friend. "

"Can you promise that?" "I promise, Tom."

Tommy left shortly after to get ready for his stream. Wilbur fell back into his chair the second he left the discord call. Closing his eyes, he tried to clear his mind for at least one brief moment. He focused on his breathing, keeping it steady and slow. He had to stay strong for now. There was a long list of people he had yet to talk to. He needed to think of something nice.

For a split second a memory appeared before his inner eye. It surprised him so much that he shook his head in disbelief. The talk with Tommy had probably messed with him a little too much. He had been wrong with his accusations about his coworker. It didn't matter. Nikki had once taught him this german word. He was barely able to pronounce it. It was something like "Hirngespenst". Translated it means brain ghost and is used to discribe images or certain ideas that haunt your brain, whether they are real or not. He had been jealous of the language for a variety of reasons and this word was for sure one of them.

He should be happy about the job. No, in fact, he was happy about it. It could give him the chance to finally let go of the stress caused by social media. There were new people, new responsibilities, new environments. It would be refreshing.
