I woke up with a bit of a headache. I swear to god, if my dark circles get any bigger, people will think helloween comes early this year. I spent my evening playing video games. Unnecessary to say, I overdid it. When I got out of a match, I realised that time had flown by without me realising how much it actually was. It was 2am. I had work tomorrow. Today, to be exact. Three and a half hours of sleep were not enough for a Friday.
I literally crawled out of bed, struggling to keep my eyes open. Without a coffee at home, I wouldn't even make it to work. Getting ready was a pain in the ass. I decided that makeup was gonna be a must this morning. I thought I looked terrible. Additionally, it wasn't my attention to jumps are Wil the second we greeted each other. Originally, I wanted to ask him something. I've been thinking about it for a while now, but so far, I didn't think we were on that level.
He was an interesting person and I had rarely met someone that could make so many nerdy references like him. Even literature. He had made multiple references to classic English literature in the past and every time he had done it, my heart had skipped a beat. Before he was there, the only literature coworkers talked about was the newest published article of the BN1 magazine. When she came arrived at the office in the morning and people were gushing about something, she knew, that a new one was out and people were either happy about it or gossiping their minds out.
For a journalism company, not a lot of people actually cared about reading. A pity if you asked me.
Wil and I had a few things in common and gaming seemed to be one of them. He has mentioned it in a sentence when talking about his weekend once. And we both liked books. And coffee of course. It had become almost a tradition I'd bring two coffees into his office and let him guess which one was his and which one was mine.
So maybe, I thought, I could ask him if perhaps, he wanted to meet me outside of work. This weekend was a busy one, but with a little luck he was free on the next one.
------------------------------------------------
It made her nervous. It felt unprofessional to ask him for something like that. Almost inappropriate. They got along well, but this was the step that would decide whether they stayed coworkers or actually became friends.
She'd ask him the next time she saw him.
And so she waited. She sat behind her desk, glancing at the time every few minutes. With every passing moment she became more uneasy. It was thirty minutes past his shift start. It was highly unusual for him to be late. She couldn't remember if he had ever been late at all. She got up to make another coffee for herself and one for him. She hoped to somehow summon him with it.
With both mugs in her hands, she went to his office. Maybe she had just missed him, somehow.
But nope, he wasn't there. The chair was empty. No laptop on his desk. No fade trace of his cologne. She felt disappointed. How would she ask him-The door behind her flew open. She turned around to see Wil hurry inside. His face was a bright red and he was breathing hard. He stopped right next to he saw me. "What happened" she asked him. He put his bag on the desk. "I overslept." She raised her brows in surprise, then gave him a sceptical look. "You? Oversleeping and being late? No way"
He gave her a smirk. "My power went out yesterday and then my phone died. So no alarm to wake me." She gave him a nod. His explanation did make sense.
Y/N held up both of the mugs to the level of his face to let him do his morningly guess.
He inspected both of them closely with his eyes. Then he raised his hand to grab the one on his right, stopped, then took the left one out of her hand. He took a sip. His friend gave him a wide grin. "One point for me. We're at 5:2 for you now, but I'm catching up, just you wait."
He rolled his eyes and exchanged the mug he held with hers. "My bad, but it won't happen again."
"Anyways, while I'm here. I wanted to ask you something." she said shyly. She looked unsure and Wilbur noticed the fade blush on her face. It made his heart beat just a little faster. "Go ahead! What is it?"
"Are you free next weekend? This one I'm pretty busy. I wanted to ask if you maybe wanted to go out for a coffee. Like a good one in a Café." He thought about it for a moment. "Uh, or we can do something else if you prefer." she added quickly. Wil was just about to agree with her idea, when he remembered the party. There was no way he could meet her on Saturday and he had to be lucky to even properly function the next day. He hesitated. "You see, I'd love too, but next weekend is gonna be a rough one and I don't think I'll have much time."
Even though she tried to hide it, it was apparent, that she was a little disappointed.
"What if you give me your number and I'll text you when anything changes? Does that sound alright?"
Jep, there it was. That cute smile that he liked on her so much. He pulled his phone out of his jeans pocket and gave it to her.
"That should work."
She typed it in and gave him back his phone. He had all sorts of stickers on it. They almost covered the entire surface of the otherwise black phone case. She couldn't identify much of it. Only one sticker with the word 'lovejoy' on it. She had no idea what it stood for but she liked the design.
And again, they had this wonderful moment in which their eyes were locked and it felt like their minds connected. None of them wanted it to end, but then Y/N looked away. "I better let you work now. You probably have enough work to catch up to anyways."
"Alright, see ya!" He didn't want her to leave the room, but he knew just as well that he wouldn't get anything done if she stayed.
