Jan's POV
There was nothing like a dinner party to take your mind off of your babies leaving the nest. So we invited three other couples who were our closest friends over to help distract us.
And to take distract us from our selfish and cruel daughter who was keeping our only grandbaby away from us.
I could not believe my own daughter could do something so horrible. She was raised so much better than that.
At six o'clock our guests arrived. The first were the Demers who were oldest friends and whose daughter Morgan Jason had dated for a short period of time. It was unfortunate that they did not work out. We really like Morgan and thought it would be wonderful if our children were married.
But sadly it was not to be. Jason felt that he did not make a connection with her. And despite my encouragement to give her another chance he broke up with her.
Morgan was now dating the son of one other couples and Jason was dating a girl named Regina. Who was a nice girl but who I could not help but feel was not right for him. Not like Morgan was.
But he could not see that.
Hopefully he would see that on their own before they went too far.
And then there was the Masters are second oldest friends. I was disappointed that they only had sons. It would have been nice if they had a daughter for Justin.
And the Goldberg who were other closests friends daughters were much too young.
I hoped maybe Pete could find someone suitable for Justin among his business associates. Someone we could introduce him to when he returned for Christmas.
I hoped that Justin did not find any one while he was away. He needed to find the right girl from the right family and I doubt he would find one at the college.
I found myself fretting about the possibility. But then told myself that Jason would keep him much too busy with school to date.
I do hope Jason does not let me down.
I was in the midst of my contemplations when Sarah Demers said "So how are the boys settling in at school."
"I'm sorry." I said giving a rather confused look. All eyes were on me and could not help but feel embarrassed. I chided myself for getting lost in thought. How rude and foolish of me.
"Jason and Justin." Sarah said. "Are they all settled in."
"Yes." I said and then it hit me. I have no idea. "I guess."
Malachi Goldberg raised a curious eyebrow. "You guess." He said. "You mean they haven't called you?"
"Justin called earlier." Pete said coming to my rescue. "To tell us that they were almost to campus."
"But they did not call to tell you that they arrived." Veronica Masters said.
"No they haven't." I said. An uneasy feeling began to stir inside of me. They should have arrived at the college hours of ago.
"That is very odd." Tobias Demers said.
"Does not sound like Jason." Fran Goldberg then said with a bit of concern in her voice. Concern I shared.
I then looked at Pete who seemed a bit dumbfounded.
"I'm sure they are okay." Pete said. "They probably got busy with unpacking, checking out the campus, meeting new friends that it slipped their mind."
His eyes flickered with annoyance. He was trying to hide it but he was not happy at that moment. He then coughed as he said "I'm sure we will hear from them soon enough."
