The drive to the college was around eighteen hours. Which meant that we would be spending at least one night in a motel. We pulled into the motel parking lot shortly after five.

The Stardusk Inn was a one story, ten room motel that was a mile off the highway.  There were only five vehicles in the parking lot. It looked like the type of place in the movies where serial killers find their next victims.

Jason opened the door and I went to open mine when he said "You wait here."

I nodded in agreement as I removed my hand from the door handle.  He closed the door and I watched as he disappeared into the office. I then sunk in my seat bemoaning my fate once again.

I can't believe that he is doing this to me I silently grumbled. Its not fair. Yes I screwed up but I don't deserve this.

I want to go home.

I then blew air between my teeth. But I'm not going home am I. At least not until Christmas vacation.  And once Christmas is over I will be going back to college with my brother.

My life as I knew it was over and I would have to get used to that. Get used to it and ]]get used to it quickly if I don't want to spend the semester getting my butt beat for having an bad attitude.

My goal was to go the entire semester no the entire year with out getting in any trouble. Heck I would like to go the rest of my life without being whipped, grounded, or made to stand in the corner.

Like that is going to happen.

I was then pulled from my thoughts by an eerie feeling that was growing inside of me. There was someone watching me I could feel it. I nervously looked around the parking lot as my heart began to race.

And then I saw it. A figure looking out one of the windows staring right at me. It was a tall, pale man with cold blue eyes that seemed to bore right through me.

My throat began to constrict as I prayed that Jason would return quickly.

My eyes locked with his unblinking eyes. I wanted to turn away but I couldn't. I feared that if I took my eyes off of him for a second he would suddenly appear at the side of my car.

With a large knife or a chain saw I thought.

Go away I pleaded.  Stop staring at me and go away.  But the man did not go away he just continued to stare at me with a creepy blank expression across his face.

I gulped as panic filled me desperately wanting to run. That is exactly what I need to do. Run as quickly as I can into the lobby and away from the gaze of this crazed killer.  It probably will get me whipped by Jason but I don't care.

I rather get my backside roasted by my brother then become this mad man's Sunday roast. I grabbed the door handle as I locked eyes with him. I took a deep breathe psyching myself to jump from the car and make a mad dash to the lobby.

I was just about to open my door when the driver's side door open causing me to jump in terror as a unholy scream escaped from my mouth.  I looked to see my startled brother staring at me.

"What is wrong with you?" He asked.

"You scared the living snot out of me." I said angrily as I clutched my chest.

"Sorry." He said as guilt flashed across his face. In a gentle voice he asked "You okay?"

"No." I said. "That creep has been staring at me from the window the entire time."

"What creep?" Jason asked as he looked at the motel.

"The one right there..." I said pointing at the window only to see he was now gone. "He was right there a moment ago."

"Well he's gone now." Jason said. "Come on I got us a room."

Fear welled up inside of me as I continued to look at the window, refusing to take my eyes off of it. I could still feel his eyes on me, watching me.  I imagined him licking his lips as he contemplated the stew he would make from my organs.

"Can we stay somewhere else?" I asked.

"What?" Jason said incredulously.

"Can we go to another motel?"

"No."

"Please." I begged. "This place is freaking me out."

"You're being ridiculous." Jason said.

"No I'm not." Justin said. "I don't want to stay here."

"Tough because you are." His voice began to lose its gentle tone. "Get out now.'

"No." I said as my heart began to race. I was not sure because the thought of sleeping in the same motel as a possible serial killer frightened me or because I was defying Jason at this moment which meant I was in danger of getting my butt beat. And I don't think I am feeling as brave as I was a few moments ago. "I'm telling you that there is a homicidal maniac watching us from the window."

I looked back at the window. There was still no sign of the freaky man whose evil eyes had been boring into me. I began to wonder if he had truly been looking at me. Perhaps he was just some dude that was just looking out a window.  That maybe  my overactive imagination had exaggerated the whole thing and he was now watch television or talking in the phone not even thinking about some random sixteen year old kid sitting in a car.

Or maybe I'm right and he is going to kill us I thought as the all too familiar lump formed in my throat.

"Justin." My brother said getting my attention. "Now." He said in a firm tone signaling to me that the debate was over.  I could see in his eyes that I was seconds away from getting my butt whipped.

I guess if I'm to be killed by some psycho killer I don't want to spend my last hours on Earth being punished by my brother.

"Fine." I said giving in. I got out of the car and grabbed a bag from the back. "But if I get my face eaten off by a deranged cannibal you will have no one to blame but yourself."

"You're not going to get your face eaten off."  Jason said as he put his hand on my shoulder and we headed to the room at the end.  I looked nervously at the window again hoping I was wrong.
