Chapter Four of Legendary
After my super intense training, I skipped lunch for some super relaxation. Darren and Luke joined me in my room my sitting in the corner chairs. Darren had been reading and Luke had been sleeping.
Me and Darren have some small talk about his great ancestors and how the pack came to be. He showed me a mark on his hip that was a storm cloud with a lightning bolt. He told me that werewolves that were Alphas had these marks and that their mates had them too. They symbolized their power. I kept quiet about my mark. I didn't want to find my mate just yet. I also asked him about mates and the rain smell. He heard from the elders you feel a physical and mental attraction to your mate but then someone named The Moon Goddess chooses the right time for the mates to find out. It's because they're the Storm pack and storms have rain and yada yada yada.
I've got a meeting now so I'll be back later. Alpha duties suck.
Darren tells me and I nod. He stands up and leaves my room. Luke leaves a while later because he wants to get dinner ready faster. I'm kind if glad Darren isn't my mate. Being a Luna must be a lot of work and I don't think I'm quite ready for that ever. "Dinner's ready!" Luke's loud voice thunders throughout the house.
I slowly pull myself out of bed and through the house. I lazily plop down in a chair and yawn. Darren isn't back yet and It's just me and Luke. He made some smoked ham with caesar salad and broccoli. We talked a bit about how things were going in the pack and how my life is being.
After the meal, I thank Luke and help him clean up. I give him a good night hug and walk away to my room. I strip down to my undergarments and slip on silk pajamas. I slide into bed and turn off my nightstand light. I get comfy. I lay there for moments. I just about drift off to sleep when my wolf ears pick up a creaking sound. I ignore it, it's probably Luke going to bed.
I hear the dragging of feat. It gets louder and louder until I feel a presence standing beside me. I lightly open my eye the slightest bit. Darren stands in front of me. I mentally sigh in relief so he won't think I'm awake. "I kinda wish you were my mate. There's something about you that makes you special. But since you're not, I'll love you like the sister that I never had. Well, the sister that I don't have anymore." He sighs and pets my hair.
"I just wish I could've helped them. Now, she's dead. Along with my mom, and dad. The god damn rouges got to them, and I ran. I was so scarred. I just can't believe I had left them to die." He slowly says. I can hear the tears and sadness in his voice.
His hand leaves my head. He tries to rebuild himself and stop the tears. "But look at me now. I'm the Alpha of a small but wonderful pack and I've got the best Beta friend I could ever ask for. And I've got you, but I don't. I wish I could just find the one for me. You fit the description, but you're not my mate. It makes me so sad." He gets sad again and this time I hear him crying.
I sit up quickly in bed and hug him. He leans in and cries on my shoulder. I get up off the bed to hug him harder. I feel his warm tears fall down my back. I grab two fists full of the back if his shirt. "Were... Were you listening t-the whole time?" He croaks out in between sobs. "Yes." I say. He cries of my shoulder and all I hear are his quiet sobs.
I pull away and hold onto the sides of his arms. His eyes are bloodshot from all the crying and his face is damp from tears. "I'll be that sister. I'll love you like I did my parents. I'll be there when you need me, and I'll help you rebuild your walls when they fall down. I'll be with you every step of the way of this endless journey." I say, tears threatening to fall. He nods and he hugs me again.
Eventually, we separate and go our different ways. I fall asleep thinking of my 'New Brother'.
I wake up slowly to the sound of chirping birds. I yawn and stretch in bed. I roll over and look out the window. It's very bright outside, a nice day. I lay there staring and eventually snap myself out of it. So much has been on my mind lately. Darren, Luke, everything. Literally everything. I even wondered what was for breakfast.
I grumble and take myself out of bed. I take off my silk pajamas and change into some comfy grey track pants and a loose fitting dark blue tank top. I shove my hands in my pockets and go downstairs. I look into the large living room. Nobody is here but silence. I continue walking until I'm in the kitchen. Nobody's here either. I walk back and sit on the couch. I wait until they arrive by counting.
Eventually, the front door opens. I was at 23594 from counting. I smile as I see Darren stumble through the front door holding bags of groceries. He smiles back and I get up to help him with the groceries. I grab three of the six bags and carry them to the kitchen. I set them down on the counter and Darren walks in with the other three. He sets them down and sighs.
"Who knew shopping could be so much work?" He says and leans against the counter. I chuckle lightly and start unpacking the bags. "Now you know how all women feel." I look at him and he's smiling at me. After unpacking all Darren's groceries with him, I lazily throw myself onto the couch. Darren takes a seat next to me.
"Where's Luke at?" I ask rubbing my eyes. Darren turns and looks at me. "I donno." He says. I sigh and feel boredom overtake me. "I'm going to the pack house. I'm going to make a friend or two." I inform Darren, standing up and leaving to room. I push open the back door and laughter fills my ears. I see little children running around an open field, their parents keeping their watchful eye on them. Others are sitting around, reading or talking. A specific girl catches my eye. A reader, just like me.
I softly make my way over to her, avoiding the crazy kids. She sees me walking at takes her eyes to mine. Her died red hair pairs well with her hazel eyes. I think she's naturally blonde. "Hello, I'm Scarlett and I'm new around here. I kinda just wanted to socialize with some of the pack." I say and smile weakly. She smiles and chuckles a bit.
She stands up and folds her book. "Kayla." She says and outstretches her hand. I gladly take it. "Nice to meet you." I say. We start walking through the yard. "So how'd you get into the pack? Where were you before?" Kayla asks as we take slow steps through the field. I chuckle. "Actually, a few days ago I didn't know I was a werewolf. The Alpha's Beta found me and brought me here. They told me who I was and I guess here I am." I say simply.
"Did your parents not know or tell you they were werewolves?" Kayla questions again. I sigh. "They died when I was twelve." I say and she quickly looks away from me to the ground. "I'm sorry." She mutters. "It's okay." I assure her. We walk in silence once again. The crunching of grass under my feet soothes my ears. I feel a slight tingle in my head.
Scarlett, where are you? We've got training to do.
Oh, I completely forgot about that. I turn to Kayla, making us stop our walk. "I've got training to do so can we go back? Darren wants me back soon." I say. "You talk with Alpha Darren? Hardly anybody gets a chance like that!" Kayla seems surprised. "I live in their house." I state as we turn and walk back. "You are one lucky duck." She says and chuckles.
"In this situation wouldn't it be one lucky wolf?" I question. She shrugs and we carry on in silence. Eventually we reach the pack house and I bid my goodbye to Kayla. "I hope to see you soon." Is the last thing I said to her.
