I was so excited to go prom shopping with my best friend. We had been planning this for weeks. We wanted to find the perfect dresses that would make us shine on prom night. We went to the mall after school and checked out several stores.

We followed some prom shopping tips we had found online, like starting early, setting a budget, and wearing comfortable clothes. We had a blast trying on different dresses and giving each other feedback. Some of them looked amazing on us, and some of them made us laugh out loud. We finally found our dream dresses at a boutique that had a sale. I fell in love with a lavender gown that had a sweetheart neckline and a flowy skirt.

It made me feel like a princess. My best friend looked stunning in a red dress that had a halter top and a slit on the side. It showed off her curves and her confidence. We also got matching shoes and accessories to go with our dresses.

We were pooped but ecstatic after our prom shopping adventure. We had scored our dream dresses and accessories, and we felt like we had slayed the world. We decided to reward ourselves with some ice cream at our favorite spot.

We plopped down at a booth and gossiped about our plans for prom night. I cant believe its finally happening, Yas said.

Weve been fantasizing about this since freshman year. She grinned and licked her chocolate cone.

Youre going to look so fabulous in that lavender gown. Mike wont be able to resist you.

I turned red and thanked her. She was always so kind and encouraging.

And youre going to look fierce in that red dress. Youll be the star of the show. I said.

She shrugged and looked down. I dont know about that. I dont even have a date yet. I frowned and grabbed her hand.

Hey, dont stress about that. You dont need a date to have a blast at prom. You have me, and our most zesty male best friend. Were going to boogie the night away and make memories that will last a lifetime. I said.

She smiled and squeezed my hand. Youre right. Youre the bestie ever, you know that? She said.

I hugged her and told her the same. We finished our ice cream and headed home, feeling pumped and optimistic for prom night.

But deep down, I was also feeling nervous and confused. I had a whatever I couldn't pinpoint on Mike for a long time, but I never told him or anyone else.

He was always so rude and funny to me and now he's nice??? But I didnt know if he liked me back or just saw me as a friend. I wanted to go to prom with him, but I was too scared to ask him out. What if he rejected me? What if he already had a date? What if he laughed at me? I didnt want to ruin our friendship or embarrass myself. I wished I had the courage to tell him how I felt, but I didnt know how.

On our way home, we decided to drop by our male best friend Kobs place. I actually miss him. We rang the doorbell and waited for him to answer.

He opened the door and greeted us with a smile.

Hey, ladies! Whats up? He said.

He invited us in and we followed him to his living room.

He had a bunch of magazines and catalogs spread out on the floor. Bro what are you doing? Yas asked.

Im looking for a suit for prom, Kob said. I want to look sharp and impress the ladies. He winked at us and we rolled our eyes.

Kob was a flirt and a jokester, but he was also a loyal and caring friend. We loved him like a brother.

Well, youre in luck, I said. We just came back from prom shopping and we found our dresses. Maybe we can help you find a suit that matches.

I showed him a picture of my lavender gown and Yas showed him a picture of her red dress. He whistled and clapped his hands.

Wow, you two look stunning! Youre going to be the stars of the night! He said. He looked at me and winked again. Especially you, Kierra. Mike is going to freak out when he sees you.

I felt my face heat up and I looked away. Kob noticed my reaction and his smile let loose. You dont like Mike, do you? He asked.

He nudged me with his elbow and said,

Come on, Kierra. You can tell me. Im your friend. I wont judge you or spill your secret.

I sighed and confessed that I hated Mike for a long time, but he kept annoying me and trying to flirt with me. Kob listened attentively and nodded angrily. He gave me a hug and said,

Dont worry, Kierra. Mike is a jerk and he doesnt deserve you as his date. You just need to be strong and ignore him. Trust me, hell get the hint. He looked at me with a serious expression and said, Kierra, youre smart, kind, beautiful, and fun. You have so much to offer and you deserve to be happy. Dont let Mike ruin your mood or your prom night. Life is too short for drama. He smiled and said, Besides, I have a plan to help you out.

''Bro does this mean there's no mikie?

''what is mikie yas''

''uh you and mike''

I honestly just ignored her.

He pulled out his phone and showed me an app called Prom Pact 2023 that he had downloaded from Disney+. It was based on a movie about three high school seniors who make a pact to go to prom together as friends after their romantic plans fall apart. Kob said that we could use the app to find other people who were looking for platonic prom dates and have fun without any pressure or expectations.

Here we go...
