The ground shook. Every single huntress, huntsman, soldier, and robot turned to the source. The grimm surrounding and scaling the mountain all looked up the to the sky. The swirling vortex of clouds suddenly shifted, spiraling out of control. The winds picked up heavily across the land. In the eye of the storm; the peak of the mountain was illuminated by the brief flashes of purple thunder striking down at the earth.
The sky warped to a dark hue of void, the clouds too thick for barely any light to pass through. The grimm were all suddenly driven into a frenzy.
And they were swarming down the mountain, straight towards everyone. The applause-like sound of everyone loading their weapons resonated throughout the vast area. Some were fidgeting, frightened of the possibilities and for their own lives. And others, had a clear resolve for this fight, the embers in their eyes burning strong.
There was many allies in this battle, a few you could even recognize. You saw Ozpin and James together alone with Winter and some man with dark-gray, disheveled hair. Somewhere else, you even saw Raven of all people, along with Vernal. You weren't entirely sure if you saw the rest of her tribe though, but you pushed that aside. Then in a different direction, you saw team RWBY with a man that had hair similar in color to Yang's. It seemed they were talking about something as they prepared themselves.
You saw an assortment of weapons: pistols, knives, revolvers, swords, shotguns, polearms, bows, and all other manner of blades and firearms. The thing almost all of them had in common? The usage of Lunar Void Dust, as apparent from the hue of the Dust being used.
The rumbling of the swarm was approaching fast. You made sure your mask was fixed on your face well, and gave a small stretch with your arms and back. You had to remember to conserve your energy for the main dish—so perhaps you should stay back for a bit and let everyone else handle the grimm?
You had to trust the people for this.
So, as the horde neared, you turned around and walked further back into the crowd. You kept walking, until you found a small high-point. You sat upon it, giving yourself a view of the battlefield ahead. The grimm were about to make contact, so the crowd immediately started going forward.
And thus, the battle begun.
Atlas ships from above shot down on the moving wave of darkness as people began firing into the grimm as well. Next, multiple Paladins began jumping into the fray, causing a great disturbance in the grimm's movement. It made them confused, unsure if they were to go forward, or attack the mechs.
Then, explosions started ringing out. Ships carrying people flew ahead, dropping many different Dust explosions into the dark crowd. However, there were many airborne grimm as well. Flocks of flapping grimm flew forward, but they were all cut from the giant fleet much higher in the air. The fleet consisted of both larger carriers, to smaller fighters.
The grimm were an assortment of all types, from all over Remnant. Small, large, weak, strong, slow, quick, dumb, and smart. No matter if the grimm were once peaceful before, as now no matter what they were doing earlier, they were fighting the greatest fight of their lives.
However, it did intrigue you. The grimm were not moving like individuals, but rather as a whole. They did not fear death, nor did they seem to flinch from pain.
They were all being controlled, weren't they? That's what you thought at least.
You took out the crystal from your imaginary pockets, watching it intensely. It was slightly pulsing, but only very subtly. It wasn't fully awake yet. It was able to do all of this during its slumber.
