There's No Stopping It Now

You were relaxing on the couch, your feet up on the table and your fingers playing with Yata's hair as he rested his head in your lap.

"You need to calm down." You sighed as he huffed. "You can't keep Akemi from the world forever, Yata."

"I know that," He huffed, looking up at you. "It's not the world that bothers me, it's her date."

You rolled your eyes. "Oh come on."

"It's bad enough she's interested in boys at all, but of all the boys she had to choose from, she had to go and pick Akio Fushimi."

"The only reason you don't like him is because he's Saru's son," You shook your head. "You've gotta stop this, Yata. Sure, Akio shares the same traits and looks as Saruhiko, but he's not his father. What happened between you and Saru has nothing to do with our children."

He sighed heavily, throwing his arm over his eyes. "Yeah, I know."

You rubbed your thumbs along his temples gently, leaning over to kiss his forehead. "Good."

"Mom! Do you know where my board is?!" Your son Kohta shouted from his bedroom then.

"Did you check your closet?" You called back.

"Yeah, it's not there!"

You sighed, getting ready to move Yata off of you and go look for you son, but Yata sat up before you could move him.

"Don't worry about it," He said, pushing off the couch and stepping over your reclined legs. "I've got a pretty good idea where he put it."

You smiled as you watched your husband wander off to aid your son, leaning farther back into the couch and closing your eyes. Sure, you understood why Yata was so annoyed by Akio dating your daughter. Akemi was his little girl, and some boy was swooping in and taking up a bunch of her time, taking her out and kissing her....And it was Yata's ex-best friends son of all people.

But Akio was a nice boy, and you liked him greatly. You knew Yata did deep down too, but he'd never admit it. Akio was indeed Saru's son, what with the same traits and looks, right down to the black hair and glasses, though Akio was more social than Saru ever was.

After all these years, Yata and Saru where on better ground with each other, though their friendship from when they were younger was never repaired. You had faith, though, that as your children grew closer, Yata and Saru would too. Eventually.

You heard a gurgle and opened your eyes, looking over at the playpen in the corner of the room. Kenji had fallen asleep in there earlier and since he was sleeping peacefully, you and Yata decided to let him stay there for a while. The two year old was waking up now, though, so you straightened up and put your legs down, pushing off the couch and moving over to the playpen.

"Well hello there, sleepyhead." You smiled as Kenji blinked drowsily, still half asleep. You bent over and lifted him out of the pen, cradling him in your arms. "I think it's time we moved you to your crib."
