'Hey.' Darren said with a smile. We took seats.
'Hello.' We smiled back.
We met for the first time so we didn't have much to talk about. So we stuck to the topic.
'Yes, it's tomorrow.' Said Darren. He looked nervous.
'Don't worry about anything, Darren. These two best friends are good girls. They're not a problem.' Zack comforted him.
He smiled and nodded.
'So we'll go to her house at 5 and we'll fix everything.' I started the conversation about the plan.
'I'll bring red balloons and flowers and something good for a birthday.' Darren said.
'Come on, man. Your Dad owns a restaurant. Be generous.' Zack suggested.
'Isn't that enough?' I asked Zack in surprise.
'No. Give her diamonds. Like diamond ring, diamond wrist watch and stuff.' Zack guided him.
My eyes widened. That'd be expensive.
'Yea, cool. Thanks, brother.' Darren smiled.
I really liked his smile.
'So let's go get her gifts?' I suggested.
'Yea, let's go.' Darren said.
So we got up. Zack tapped Darren's shoulder. He was really nervous.
**********
'We have equal sized fingers and wrists.' I told Darren, who was busy looking for a suitable jewelry for her girlfriend to be.
'Ahan? Try this one, then.' Darren said, giving me a diamond bracelet.
It fit my wrist.
'What about this one? Zack said, pointing to a wrist watch.
'Yes, get this one out and I'll look for more things.' Darren said.
Zack and I looked at each other and smiled at his passion.
'No. We're not left with much time, Darren. I think this bracelet you chose is the best.' Zack said.
'Are you sure?' He asked.
'Yes. Let's get this packed.' He directed. Zack was like a boss here right now.
The bracelet was worth $3000.
That was expensive. I had rich friends. Wow.
We got out and went from market to market.
Zack was confused about what to give her.
He wanted to get her something special. And I had no idea what was special for him.
'I'll get her a dress for the prom?' He asked me.
'You're not her Dad. That's not your responsibility.
'I can be her Daddy.' He winked at me.
'Shut up.' I punched him on his head.
He let out a chuckle.
'This is the biggest gift shop in the city.' Darren said as we got out of the car. We were tired of searching.
I sighed.
Something attracted me as I entered the shop. It was a jewelry box. That was beautiful.
'Zacky.' I pulled his arm.
'Harry.' He said.
'Sorry.' I mumbled. 'I think I'll get her this box.'
'Yes. This is beautiful.' He said.
'Get this one packed, please?' I said to a sales guy.
I saw the price tag and so did Zack. We exchanged looks.
It said, $300.
I pretended like I could afford it.
Zack found ten keychains saying, 'We love Marilyn Monroe.' She loved Marilyn so I knew this'd be the best gift.
$2000 was the price.
'You're a Prince. Be generous.' I said.
'I'm not her boyfriend.' He said with a serious face.
So that was that. We were now on the way to my house. Darren was home now.
It was a silent drive. But uncomfortable.
I was finally home. He didn't wait till someone opened the door for me. He drove back as I left his car.
That was weird. I knew something was wrong with him. I didn't do anything wrong, I knew that.
It was 4. Mom opened the door.
'Where have you been?' She asked me.
'I was with Zack. We were planning for Ari's birthday.' I told her.
'Okay. Did you eat something?
'Pizza.' I said and threw my self on the bed. I was worried. Something was up with Zack.
I checked my phone. No messages received. I decided to message Zack.
Me: Reached home?
