Three Years Later

Every day, San comes over to my house to check on Hyein, but when she falls asleep, he leaves. Even when he has work, he makes sure to come at night just to see her. Don't get me wrong, he's being a great dad, but whenever it's really late and I tell him to stay for the night, he always finds a way to refuse it. I know he just doesn't want to stay around me, and it's upsetting because we barely talk. I really want him to include me in his daily life. At least I get to see him every day, but it's not the same as before.

I miss spending time with him and having meaningful conversations, but I don't know how to approach him about it without making things awkward. Hyein is now three years old and can say a few words, but she still struggles with her speaking. She's grown so much since she was a baby, but it feels like time has flown by so quickly. It's amazing to see how much she's learned and how much she's grown, but sometimes I miss the days when she was still a baby and would fall asleep in my arms. Hyein has gotten so close to her father that I think she's a daddy's girl.

______

On a rainy night, I was cooking rice and chicken in the kitchen while San and Hyein played hide and seek.

"One, two, three, here I go!" San yelled looking around the room for Hyein. He searched under the couch, in my bedroom, and even in the bathroom.

"Hey, do you know where she could've hidden herself?" San whispered to me. I pointed to the cabinet door below the sink where I was standing.

"Oh," he said, then slowly went down to the cabinet and opened it.

"BOO!" he shouted, scaring Hyein and making her scream.

"Daddy, no fair!" Hyein mumbled.

"You...you asked mummy for help,"she added.

"What? Me? Never! I played fair and square," San said with a laughter.

"Alright, no more games. Hyein, go wash your hands for dinner," I said. San helped Hyein up to the sink so she could wash her hands, while I set three plates on the table and put food on them. I helped Hyein to sit down on her chair, and then we started to eat. After dinner, I put all the plates in the sink and started washing them, while San read a book to Hyein on the couch.

"Okay Hyein, that's all for today," San said, closing the book.

"Okay daddy," Hyein replied. San checked the time and said,

"Oh, it's getting late. Okay Hyein, daddy has to go now."

"No, I don't...want you to go," she whined, hugging San's leg.

"Don't go daddy, don't go!" she yelled.

"Hyein, you will see me tomorrow," he said.

"No!" she yelled again.

"Alright, Hyein, let go of daddy," I said.

"No!" she yelled.

"Hyein, let go of him. You will see him tomorrow," I explained.

"No, why can't daddy stay...he's always leaving," she said.

"Because daddy has work tomorrow, so he can't stay," I said.
