After I finished getting dressed, I called out to Hyein so she could get ready to go out. I helped her change her clothes and put on her shoes, and then we left the house to meet Mona and her daughter, Sofia, at the mall.
"Hey!" Mona exclaimed, waving her hand at me as we approached her.
"Hey, sorry for keeping you guys waiting," I apologized.
"Hey, Sofia, how are you?" I asked, turning to Mona's daughter.
"I'm good, thank you," Sofia replied with a smile.
"Hi, Sofia," Hyein greeted her shyly.
"Hi, Hyein," Sofia responded, reaching out to hold Hyein's hand.
We all walked into the mall, and decided to stop at a cafe first. We took a seat and began looking through the menu.
"Hyein, what would you like to eat?" I asked her.
"I want a croissant, mummy," she replied.
"And what about you, Sofia?" I asked
"Umm, the same thing," Sofia replied.
"Okay, I'll get a bagel and iced latte. What about you, Mona?" I asked her.
"I'll have the same thing as you," Mona replied with a smile.
I got up to order at the counter, then walked back to the table."Mummy, can we sit over there?" Hyein asked, pointing to a kid's table with drawing books.
"Sure, but make sure I can see you guys," I replied, watching Hyein and Sofia hold hands as they walked over.
"So, how's it going with you and San?" Mona asked.
I sighed. "It's going well," I said, faking a smile.
"Hey, what's with that face? What's wrong?" Mona asked, noticing my expression.
"It's nothing," I replied, trying to brush it off.
"Dominique, I know you. Tell me," she insisted.
I sighed again. "San is great, but to Hyein he is, but to me not so much ," I said."What do you mean?" Mona asked, concerned.
"He just doesn't express himself to me," I explained.
"You mean, like make love to you?" Mona asked, bluntly.
"Kinda," I replied, feeling a bit embarrassed.
She sighed, then took a moment to think."Hey, let me tell you what I do when Marshall and I have an argument," she said.
"What do you do?" I asked, interested.
"So whenever we argue, I wear sexy clothing to bed and pretend I'm still mad at him. That's when you get him trapped under your fingers," she explained.
"So, do you mean seduce San?" I asked her.
"Yes, you dummy," she replied with a laugh.
"But I don't think San wants me like that. Besides, Marshall is your husband, of course he would fall into your trap," I said.
"Oh yeah, you're right," she agreed, just as the waiter arrived with our meal. I got up and grabbed two plates of croissants, then walked over to the kid's table where Hyein and Sofia were sitting.
"Enjoy," I said to them before returning to the table and sitting down.
"So, why don't you tell him how you feel?" Mona suggested.
"Sometimes I feel like I'm going to ruin the vibe between us, especially when he comes over to my apartment just to see Hyein," I replied.
"I think you should seduce him to see if he wants you like that," she suggested again.
"But what if he doesn't want me like that?" I added.
"Dominique, you're just thinking of the bad side of things. Think of the good things," Mona said reassuringly.
"Yeah, okay," I said, taking a bite of my bagel.
"Oh, and also if you're planning to seduce him today, make sure to leave Hyein at my house," she said.
"But San comes to my apartment just to see her, though," I said.
"That's the point, Dominique. Once he gets there and finds out that Hyein isn't there, that's when he falls into your trap and he's all yours," she said.
I thought about it, and it wasn't a bad idea. Besides, Hyein loves going to her cousin's house, and having San all to myself made me get goosebumps. After having lunch with Mona and her daughter, Hyein and I decided to walk home since the mall isn't that far from my apartment.
"So, did you enjoy going out with me, Auntie Mona, and Sofia?" I asked Hyein.
"Yeah!" she said. When we arrived home, Hyein ran to her iPad that was just lying on the couch, while I went to my room to change. I took off my outside clothes and put on my normal clothes. I tied my hair up in a bun and headed out to the living room. I sat beside Hyein on the couch, and then there was a knock on the door. I got up to open it and saw San standing there.
"San? I thought you weren't coming till 9 pm," I said, confused.
"I got off work early today," he replied.
"Daddy!" Hyein yelled, running up to San. He lifted her up in his arms.
"How's my princess today? Did you miss me?" he joked.
"Yeah," Hyein nodded her head.
"Good, because daddy misses you too," he said, then kisses her forehead before putting her down. We watched as Hyein ran back to her iPad, leaving San and me in the middle of the hallway.
"So, how was work?" I asked, looking back at him.
"It was alright," he said, giving his attention to Hyein, who was sitting on the couch.
"And how was your day?" he asked.
"It was good. Hyein and I got to get out of the house and hang out with Mona and Sofia, her daughter," I said to him.
"That's great. Did you guys have fun?" he asked, now facing me.
"Yeah, we did. We went to the mall," I said, smiling.
"Cool," he said, then going to sit down on the couch next to Hyein. I followed him and sat next to him.
"Oh, I forgot to tell you. Hyein is going back to nursery tomorrow," I said.
"Oh, nice," he said, seeming a little uninterested.I felt a little deflated by his lack of enthusiasm.
"Yeah, it is," I said, trying to keep the conversation going.
"So, how's Mingi and your coworkers?" I asked.
"They are alrig-" he started saying before getting distracted by Hyein's drawings on her iPad.
"Wow, Hyein, this drawing is amazing. Who are the people in the drawing?" San asked.
"Mummy, daddy, and me," she said, showing us the stick figures she drew
"Wow, Hyein, you're such a talented artist! You could be a professional artist when you grow up," San said admiringly. But Hyein had other plans.
"No, I want to be like mummy when I grow up," she replied. I was touched by her response and couldn't resist kissing her forehead. San, however, didn't seem to share my sentiment and just stared at the floor. Hyein soon excused herself to go play with Mr. Soupy in her room.
"Have you eaten yet?" San asked, breaking the awkward silence.
"Yes, I have," I replied.
"What about you?" I asked him.
"I ate at work," he answered, now looking at me.
"Do you want to help me make dinner?" I asked him. He looked hesitant but agreed.
"What are we making?" he asked as he followed me to the kitchen.
"I was thinking about making spaghetti, Hyein's favorite," I said.
