After dropping off Hyein at nursery, I decided to take advantage of my found freedom and head to the grocery store. As I walked down the aisles, I carefully selected each item, taking my time to consider the quality and price of each product. The hum of the air conditioning and the gentle buzz of the fluorescent lights overhead created a soothing atmosphere, and I found myself enjoying the simple pleasure of being able to shop, when I was done I headed to the cash out counter.
After I finished paying for my groceries at the checkout counter, I made my way back home, the weight of the bags tugging at my arms. As I walked through the door, I set the bags down on the kitchen table with a sigh of relief.
I began to unpack the bags, carefully placing each item on the table. Just as I was about to start putting everything away in the pantry and fridge, there was a sudden knock at the door. I paused, wondering who it could be, and made my way to the front door and I opened the door to see Wooyoung, and my heart sank as I realized what was about to happen.
"Wooyoung?" I said, my voice barely below a whisper.
"What are you doing here?" I asked, my heart pounding in my chest.
"I came to talk to you," he said, his voice low and hesitant.
"Can I come in?" I hesitated for a moment, wondering if it was a good idea, but eventually relented, stepping aside to let him in. As he made his way into my living room, I couldn't help but feel a sense of dread wash over me.
"No, actually, I don't think it's a good idea," I said, turning around to look at the hallway to my room.
"Okay," he said, his voice barely above a whisper.
"I came here to tell you that I'm going back to Busan, and I think this thing between us should end because San is my friend, and I don't want to hurt him anymore." I felt a lump form in my throat
"Okay," I simply said, my voice barely above a whisper.
"Okay, bye," he said, turning to leave.
"Bye," I said, watching him leave and feeling a sense of relief wash over me. As I closed the door and turned around, I saw San standing there, rubbing his eyes from sleep.
"Who were you talking to?" he asked, his voice groggy with sleep. "Just the neighbor," I lied, my heart pounding in my chest.
"What did they say?" he asked, his eyes still half-closed.
"Nothing, they knocked on the wrong door," I lied again, feeling guilty for keeping the truth from him.
"Okay," he simply said, yawning and making his way back to bed. I couldn't help but feel a sense of relief wash over me as I watched him go, i then he walks back to me
"Oh, by the way, I got a call from Mingi," he said, looking at me."I don't know if you know him, but he told me that I should go back to work."
I furrowed my eyebrows, concerned.
"Oh, but don't you want more time to recover?" I asked him, looking at him with concern.
San shook his head, a determined look on his face."No, I'll be fine," he said, his voice confident.
"Besides, I don't feel any more pain in my body."
I let out a sigh, feeling conflicted. On one hand, I was happy that he was feeling better, but on the other hand, I was worried that he was pushing himself too hard.
"Are you sure that you're ready to go back to work?" I asked him, still worried.
San nodded resolutely. "Yes, I'm sure," he said, his voice firm.
"I need to get back to my routine and feel productive again."
I nodded, understanding where he was coming
from. "Okay, if you're sure," I said, giving him a small smile."But promise me that you'll take it easy and not overdo it."
San smiled back at me, a look of gratitude on his face. "I promise," he said.
