The Preparation

*1 month later*

"Tomorrow's your first match for the regionals, right?"

Anika looked up and was surprised to see Rukawa talking to her.

"Hi Rukawa-kun. Yep, tomorrow's the big day for me."

"Be careful with the one called Minami."

"Minami? You mean the captain? Why would—"

Before Anika could finish her sentence, coach Anzai came in the gym and started to speak

"Anika, what are you still doing there? Aren't you supposed to practice your shooting? 300 successful 3-point shots before you can go home. Ho ho ho"

"Yes coach!"

*7:12pm*

"Aaand that's the last one for today!" Anika looked at her uncle after the shot and he nodded in satisfaction.

"Well done. You are more than ready for tomorrow's match. Ho ho ho. I'll see you tomorrow morning."

She smiled, grabbed her duffel bag and immediately left the gym. She knows that someone's waiting for her at the school gate.

When she reached, Sendoh is already waving at her. He is wearing his Ryonan trousers and Ryonan varsity jacket.

"Ehh? You have a new one?" Anika asked

"Yep, they had another one made for me. How was your practice?"

"It was exhausting but I'm really excited for tomorrow. I'm quite nervous too..."

"Well, that's normal. Will it make you feel better if I tell you that I'll be watching?"

"W-Watch... W-WHY??? I mean it's fine but you're a pro and I'm... I'm just—"

"You're my girlfriend, is that what you're trying to say? Let's head home. You need plenty of rest."

"Yeah, I'll see you tomorrow. I can't wait to watch you play."

Anika took a deep breath. When she was about to go in, Sendoh grabbed her by the wrist and pulled her in a hug.

"I love you" He whispered to her

"Anika? Sendoh-kun?"

They cut the hug and looked at where the sound came from. They were both surprised to see Anika's mom. She's grinning like there's no tomorrow.

"Why don't you guys head inside and have dinner first? I bought some sushi."

"Uhh, it's alright Ms. Anzai. I'm about to leave anyway." Sendoh said as he put his hands in his pockets.

"Hmm are you sure you don't wanna stay and spend a little more time with my Anika?"

"Mom..."

"Yeah, uhm, I better go now. Good night Ms. Anzai. See you tomorrow, Anika!" With his crimson cheeks, he bowed and went on his way.

"Ahh that boy! Anyway, Anika, hun, you need to update me about the two of you. How is it going?"
