Chapter 13: Gave him my hoodie, and my name.
We were both in the lift, with no one even wording a damn thing with their mouths. Matthew turned around towards me, and we had an intense eye contact between each other until he starts the conversation. Apparently, he wanted to talk to me about some things right then; since he didn't have any other lectures to attend as well.
"Hyung, do you genuinely look okay?" He said that with a lower and deeper voice, in such a soothing way. At least, that's what I had thought. What's surprising was, Matthew was trying to check up on me. I appreciate, but no thank you. "Uhh... nothing." I answered that lead to Matthew raising an eyebrow.
"Something definitely seems wrong. I mean, your ex boyfriend is with another guy and you kn-" Matthew started getting in detail until I shushed him. "I know."
Both of us paused for a moment. But that's because the lift had reached to the ground floor. Both of us had planned to go out of the campus and grab a waffle. We walked out of the lift and our conversation got unpaused.
"Not just that." I said to him. He looked at me in confusion. "Taerae told me that Hao hyung just wants the best for me."
"It clearly isn't." Matthew replied. I agree, the best for me is only when I'm with him. "I know that you think that being with Hao is the best, but that's just the thinking." Matthew continued. Okay, how did he read my mind??
"What he did was still wrong. That isn't the best for you. But I believe that god schemed this all so that you have better in store." Wow, very well explained. We began to walk, as I was completely speechless. Moment of awkwardness again. Sheesh.
Maybe he's right. The way he told me every single detail, I could actually move on. Like, bullying me is wrong, but god made him do that so that I can learn and aspire to have someone better- which I probably won't in a while.
Forget that, we were both here to have waffles together. We then walked out of the campus and went to the nearby waffle corner. Was a five minutes walk, simple. "Ah, Matthew-ya!" I started our conversation again. He did a Mhm. "It's alright! It's just college years."
"Yet it's getting ruined for you." Said Matthew. Now, how does he know? "Ugh, I agree. I thought it was all fun and parties for me." I ranted.
"Honestly, get over that thinking. You're narrow minded." Matthew suggested to me. Huh? Narrow minded?
"I mean, I miss my high school times. I was popular and had a bunch of people around me." I recollected the moments. "And when you're in college, you lost all of that?" Asked Matthew. I nodded.
"Hao hyung was one of my high school friends. I really thought I'd have a future with him since we had the same goal." I sighed. I wish things were the same. "That's why you ain't over that man. You know him and trust him for long." He said that. I mean, he's changed a lot?
"Well, we forget about that. We're here to have a waffle together, as my treat." Matthew looked at me and said that. There's no way am letting him pay.
"No! I'm paying." I told him. He shook his head. "You treated my hand now ill treat you a waffle!" He tried to back his point.
"Shush that's it. We both pay for each other's waffle." We then went inside and browsed the menu. Matthew looked really muddled up. What was wrong?
"Uhh hyung?" He called me out. "I don't really know what to pick out of them, what do you suggest?" Oh yes, he was a transfer student. Maybe something contrasting like dark chocolate?
"What about dark choco?" I pointed at that and suggested it to him. He grinned as wide as he could. "Oh yes! I love Belgian dark chocolates. It tastes so dreamy." He responded to me.
Oh, just like Hao hyung. I remember he would chose exactly the same thing as Matthew is currently.
"What about you?" He was curious enough to ask me this question. "I have white chocolate flavoured. It tastes hella great." I said.
We took our orders, paid for our waffles separately, and soon they were handed to us, warm and fresh. Both of us devoured it. We both then walked out of the shop, going back to the school.
Time was running short, Matthew insisted he would drop me off to the dorms. He didn't have any other lectures so he'd go there too.
We reached to the twenty fourth floor once again , and begun with our little conversation again. "Thank you Matthew, it was fun to hang out with you. Specially when my best friend Haruto ditched me for his future boyfriend." I initiated it. "Oh?" He did that so cutely I swear I wanted to pinch his cheeks.
"Speaking of him, since he has interchanged numbers with me, can I also have your number if you don't mind?" Matthew asked that to me. For what purpose though? Oh wait! Convenience and our project.
"Of course, since you've just come and become my project partner and in the future we'll continue to be classmates, here's my number." I said that and began to tell my phone number to him. After giving it, he put that into his contact but while saving Matthew asked me something shocking.
"Uh hyung? Would you like to share your name with me? I think I might've had missed out or forgotten about it since day one." So he didn't know my name. Oh god, that's why he kept calling me hyung.
"My name is Hanbin." I said this to him. "Oh?" He didn't comprehend. "Sung Hanbin." I repeated. "Hambin." He said after that. I couldn't resist but pull his cheeks and pat them, while the younger was dumbfounded.
"Oh! Hanbin. Now I know how to pronounce it." He beamed at me. Aww, he looks like an eatable mochi. I pointed at him and pleaded him to call me Hambin but he denied instead. Augh.
"And also." He said. He then removed his hoodie, I meant my hoodie, revealing him in a cream white T-shirt. He handed that to me and gave a short smile again.
"You just realised." I folded my arms. "Sorry. I've been trying to find out who gave me the hoodie until Hao hyung told me today that it was yours." Oh fuck, it's about him again. I shook my head.
"How did he even tell you?" I asked. "When you went, he asked me what was I doing with your hoodie. Since then, I realised. Thank you so much for giving it to me while I was sleeping." He then bowed at me like a polite kid. I wish I could hug him again but we gotta know our restrictions. He has basic manners at least but I really don't want to be close with him. So as I planned, I'll probably cut him off after our project. Not so sure, but I really don't want to take an interest in that soul.
"Ah! No problem. You were shivering." I said back. "Anyways, tomorrow at two pm! I expect you to be here." I then opened my door and waved at him. "Bye! Hanbin hyung." He said my name and left , skipping away.
