That night, Buster couldn't sleep, thinking about wha Nana had said.
He tossed and turned, burying his head under his pillow.
Then he threw the pillow aside, got up, and ran out of his bedroom.
He hurried down a spiral staircase to his workspace. He found a large trunk, opened it, and started packing it full of props and costumes.
Moments later, Buster was dragging the heavy trunk down the street, talking to Rosita on his phone.
"No, I know, but trust me on this. It'll be totally worth it." He reached the entrance to a rock-music club. "I'm outside her place now. Can you call the others and have them meet up in half an hour? Great! Thank you!"
He opened the door and entered the club. It was small and packed with enthusiastic fans of rock music.
Ash, a crested porcupine, was singing on the tiny stage.
Oh, ohh
Oh, ohh (go, go, go, go)
Off, off with your head
Dance, dance 'til you're dead, dead
Heads will roll, heads will roll
Heads will roll on the floor
Glitter on the wet streets
Silver over everything
The glitter's all wet
You're all chrome
I'm dripping with alchemy
Shiver, stop shivering
The glitter's all wet
You're all chrome
The men cry out, the girls cry out
The men cry out, the girls cry out
The men cry out, oh no
The men cry out, the girls cry out
The men cry out, the girls cry out
The men cry out, oh no
Off, off with your head
Dance, dance 'til you're dead (dead)
Heads will roll, heads will roll
Heads will roll on the floor
You came last
Take the past
Shut your eyes
Realize
You came last
Take the past
Shut your eyes
Realize
Glitter on the wet streets
Silver over everything
The river's all wet
You're all chrome
You're all chrome
Off, off, off with your head
Dance, dance, dance 'til you're dead
Off, off, off with your head
Dance, dance, dance 'til you're dead
Off, off, off with your head
Dance, dance, dance 'til you're dead
Off, off, off with your head
Dance, dance, dance 'til you're dead
When she finished, the crowd went wild, cheering and applauding. "Thank you so much!" Ash told them. "Good night!"
As she came off the stage, she spotted Buster waiting in the wings. "Moon?" she said, delighted to see her friend. "Hey!" She ran up and hugged him.
"Wow, you were great out there!" Buster enthused.
"Thanks," she said, smiling. "I gotta go back out for an encore."
As she turned toward the stage, Buster quickly asked, "What are you doing after the show?"
"Uh, nothing," Ash said.
"Well, listen," Buster said, launching into the little speech he'd prepared in his mind. "I know this is crazy-short notice, but you always said you'd come back to work with us when the time was right."
"Of course!" Ash agreed.
"Well, this is that time!" Buster said.
The club's owner, a crocodile named Rick, bumped Buster out of the way. "Here," Rick said to Ash flatly.
"Paycheck."
Getting shoved aside didn't stop Buster from trying to convince Ash to rejoin his cast. "I'm getting the gang together to go audition for this huge show-"
"Just a second," Ash interrupted, looking at her paycheck. "Hey, Rick!" she called to the crocodile.
"How come you're only paying me half of what the other acts get?"
