The wedding rituals proceeded as the evening wore off. While Simran and Angad took the pheres, Nayab and Danish subconsciously locked eyes. Then Angad applied sindoor and made Simran wear the mangalsutra before the priest declared them husband and wife.
The couple first hugged each other, making all the guests gush at their PDA. Then they went to take the blessings of their parents and elders.
"Congratulations," Nayab said when the newly wedded reached her. Her eyes were becoming glassy yet again. She hugged Simran and Angad together and mentally prayed for their happily married life.
Then the couple went to get their pictures done. And Nayab found Hamza and Aaliya among the crowd and went towards the buffet with them. All three filled their plates with the mouth-watering dishes and sat down on a table to eat. Danish was standing away from the crowd, with Catherine. He was glad for the sunglasses he was wearing that helped him watch Nayab eat peacefully with her family without getting caught.
"You're really gonna let her go?" Catherine asked.
He sighed and put his hands in his pocket. "She was never mine to let go."
That made her chuckle. "You know, I always thought of you of the kind who would single-handedly carve a path through a mountain, just to reach the doorstep of the one you love."
He turned towards her and took off his glasses. "First of all, I don't love her." His tone was hard. "And second of all, I don't remember hiring you to give me advice about my love life."
It was rude of him to speak to her in that way. And if it was someone else, they would have taken offense. But not Catherine. She knew Danish too well to take offense. She could feel the pain in him, and he was trying to hide it from her by snapping at her. It wasn't something he did too often, and that's what made her more worried.
The ceremony ended and Nayab had to rush back to her room to get changed and pack all her stuff since she had to leave for Delhi. She kept it comfortable with a pair of black colored joggers, a black sleeveless crop top and a red long shrug over it. She went down to the reception and gave her luggage to a bellboy to keep it in the car. Then she went to meet Simran and say goodbye to her.
"I'll see you after my honeymoon." Simran said, to which Nayab nodded.
"Did you say bye to him?"
Nayab felt her heart quicken at that question. Honestly, she had considered leaving without saying bye because she wasn't sure she'd be able to do it without breaking down in front of him. But then she also knew that he deserved better than that. They deserved better than that. A proper goodbye is what they deserved.
"No, I am going to find him now." Nayab replied.
After meeting Simran and Angad's parents, she set off for Danish. Near the mandap, she found Catherine. She went up to her. "Hey, have you seen Danish?"
