Danish arrived right on time with a bouquet of pink lilies.
"Thank you so much for inviting me, aunty." He passed the flowers to Gulshan.
"Oh," She smiled, "Don't mind it. Come, have a seat." Saying that, she passed a warning glare to Haider to not go all detective on the poor guy.
"Hello, sir." Danish cleared his throat.
Haider nodded half-heartedly.
Nayab came out of her bedroom wearing a simple black kurti with palazzo. As soon as their eyes met, they both involuntarily smiled.
"Hi," She said, behaving herself in front of her parents.
"Hey. How is your ankle?"
"Better."
Then Gulshan asked them all to settle down for dinner. The menu consisted of chicken rara, mutton biryani, tawa roti, salad and green chutney.
"Aunty, the food is amazing." Danish said after taking a bite.
Gulshan smiled in response.
"Yes," Nayab agreed, "I am so sad I won't be getting your food from tomorrow."
"I have made extra batches of everything and kept it in the fridge. You don't have to worry about cooking for another week." Gulshan told her.
That made Nayab grin. "You're the best."
"When is your flight tomorrow?" Danish asked, keeping the conversation flowing.
"Why? Have you been waiting for us to leave?" Haider spoke for the first time.
That made Danish uncomfortable very quickly.
"Papa," Nayab said.
"Don't mind him." Gulshan took over, "Our flight is at 11 in the morning."
"About that.." Nayab said to Danish, "Can I borrow your car tomorrow? Mine has been causing trouble lately. I need to take it to the service center."
"Yeah, sure." Danish replied.
"No need." Haider chimed in again. "We'll take an uber."
"Please, sir. I won't like it if you have to take an uber when my car is available." Danish insisted.
Haider narrowed his eyes on him. "Why would I care about what you like or you don't?"
"We will take Danish's car." Gulshan declared.
Haider looked offended, but didn't want to disagree with his wife.
"I'll be here by 8, and then we can take them to the airport together." Danish told Nayab.
"But don't you have a sangeet function tomorrow?" Nayab reminded him.
"It is in the evening. I can supervise things on the phone." He assured her.
