After that, Mumbo really just stayed inside his base. He was too worried to leave for anything anymore. He didn't even go to the shopping district, and he was absent from any Boatem Meetings.

The only interaction he had was with Grian, who continued to visit. Even these worried Mumbo, however, as he was aware of something that Grian wasn't.

It had been two weeks since Mumbo last fed, and he was beginning to get peckish. Although vampires can go quite some time without eating, they still need to.

And Mumbo was getting hungry faster than he had before. He wondered if it was because he was craving human blood, and he watched as his only meal option came and left his house every day. It was like Grian was unknowingly taunting him, waving a prize in front of his face every time he stepped out the door safely.

Grian did ask Mumbo if he was hungry, but every time Mumbo lied, saying that he felt fine. Although Grian was beginning to catch on.

Every time Grian visited, he noticed how Mumbo had to take deep breaths every few minutes, or how he tried to keep himself occupied with something when Grian spoke.

Grian even noticed that Mumbo would stare at him when he wasn't looking, and quickly turn away if Grian noticed. It was almost.. cute.. how nervous Mumbo seemed.

It would've been cuter if Mumbo's nervousness didn't stem from the very real possibility of him killing Grian at any given moment.

That was another thing that had been occurring recently. Mumbo had been having far more impulsive thoughts, ranging from mildly concerning to extremely disturbing. He never mentioned it to Grian, but he had even begun to scare himself with the increased amount. It was like something was making him more... vampiric. Like a magnet drawing him closer to behaving like a monster than a person. It scared him.

They both knew that they had to come up with some kind of solution soon, or else things might not end pretty.

During his most recent visit, Grian had begun to lightly suggest Mumbo eating.

"Come on! Just do it!" Grian exclaimed, waving his wrist in front of Mumbo's face. Mumbo rolled his eyes. "Please, Grian, you're being obnoxious."

"And you're being stubborn!" Grian retaliated, crossing his arms. "Come on, it's not even that big of a deal, Mumbo."

"Excuse me, it very much is a big deal," Mumbo said, "I am not going to hurt you again."

"Oh, please, you aren't gonna hurt me. And besides, I know you want to," Grian said, in an almost sing-songy way. Mumbo clenched his fists and turned away, although he very much did want to.

Grian grabbed both of Mumbo's wrist, causing him to jump in surprise. "Please, Mumbo," he said, "Just do it."

Mumbo sighed. "You really aren't gonna let this go, are you?" Grian shook his head. "Oh, goodness, alright," Mumbo said, defeated. Inside, however, his stomach was practically singing with joy.

Grian sat down in a chair. "Wrist?" Mumbo asked. Grian nodded quietly.

Mumbo carefully took Grian's wrist in hand. He heard Grian hold his breath, waiting for the impact. Slowly, he bit down.

Grian found that the pain was less noticeable the second time around. The initial sting quickly disappeared as the venom seeped into the wound. Grian closed his eyes, focusing instead on his breathing. He felt his body tremble a little, although he was unsure as to why.

Before Grian had to say anything, Mumbo pulled off. Every part of him wanted to keep going, to drain Grian of everything he had, but he kept himself under control.
