chapter 23 🌚

[Za'nara's dream]

"I always knew you were a betrayer. Nothing but a filthy back stabber." Quaritch grilled Za'nara. "You let your guard down and let the Sully's influence blind you from all of your beliefs. All because the Sully boys bat their eyes at you and called you pretty a few times? Pathetic. Just like your Mother and Father. You were never one of us."

"I'm sorry." Za'nara mumbled.

"You will never see the Sully's again, I'm going to kill their whole family... After I kill Jake, I might head for the youngest son... Lo'ak!" Quaritch announced.

"No!" Za'nara screamed.

Za'nara woke up from her slumber, screaming no at the top of her lungs.

"Za'nara! Za'nara !" Lo'ak yelled at Za'nara whilst shaking her arms to wake her up.

Za'nara gasped and opened her eyes. Lo'ak grabbed her head and cuddled it into his stomach, Za'nara breathed deeply and her heart raced.

"Do you have that dream again?" Lo'ak asked her whilst holding her trembling body.

"I have this pit in my stomach, Lo'ak. It's a bad feeling..." Za'nara explained. "I can't keep doing this."

"Shh, I know... It's okay." Lo'ak reassured her has tears ran down her cheeks. "Get some sleep, I'm right here, I won't let go of you."

Za'nara took a deep breath and attempted to close her eyes again, holding onto Lo'ak tightly.

Lo'ak ran his fingers through her hair and caressed her cheek, at attempt to soothe her and hopefully help her fall back to sleep.

"I love you." Lo'ak whispered in her ear.

"I don't wanna go back, Lo'ak. I don't ever want to go back there." Za'nara confessed. "Please promise me."

"I will not let anyone hurt you, I'll protect you with everything I got." Lo'ak reassured her. "Get some sleep, tìyawn."

(tìyawn- love)

Za'nara sighed and closed her eyes, still resting her head on Lo'ak's chest with no intention of moving it. Lo'ak placed a soft kiss on the top of her head and pulled her in closer to him so she knew he was still there.

The next morning, whilst Lo'ak still slept, Za'nara went out for an early morning swim to clear her head and to soothe her nerves. She noticed Kiri down by the shore, just laying in the water and staring up at the sky. Za'nara was curious to what she was doing and walked over to where she was laid.

Za'nara stood over her, covering the sun that was once beaming off Kiri's face. Kiri opened her eyes and stared up at her.

"Hello to you too!" Kiri greeted her.

"What are you doing down there?" Za'nara asked her.

"Relaxing." Kiri replied. "You should try it."

"What? By laying on my back and staring up at the sky?" Za'nara questioned.

"It's a good way to clear your mind, go on try it!" Kiri insisted.

Za'nara agreed and decided to lay down in the water and stare up at the morning sky with Kiri. It was a nice day, no rain for once. As they had just recently entered their wet season. On the days we're you got sun, you would enjoy it.

Za'nara and Kiri laid on their backs and stared up at the clouds in the morning sky and just got lost in thought. They didn't even notice how much time had past.

Za'nara finally sat up and turned to Kiri.

"Your right, that was really helpful." Za'nara said to her. "Thank you."
