Kiyo's POV

"We'll look after you, Kiyo."

That sentence is engraved inside my brain.

They'll look after me? Who? And I only heard one voice. What was that voice anyway?

I pull my blanket over my shoulders. Unanswered questions flood my head, keeping me from getting sleep. Again.

I'm currently in the butterfly mansion, because they have the most rooms. No wonder why, they mostly take care of injured slayers.

This weird incident happened yesterday. Now I'm in this comfy bed unable to get sleep, just like yesterday.

Maybe going outside will help.

I quietly get out of bed and grab a chamberstick (A/N: Idk if they used this back in Japan, this is the only thing I can think of), lighting the candle on fire so I can see.

The small fire instantly brightens my view, and I walk outside my room. The floor creaks little by little. Hopefully this doesn't wake anybody up.

I shiver because of the chill weather in the middle of the night. My haori is in a separate dressing room. I guess I gotta go grab it if I want go outside.

Quietly, I make myself to the dressing room and open the door. I shine the candle in the room and it brightens up the place, revealing some set of haoris and katanas.

I search throughout the room and finally find my haori, placing the chamberstick onto the floor while I tug on the sleeves to get it on properly.

When I'm done, I remember to pick up my chamberstick and head straight out into the backyard where the small, decorated pond is.

I sit under a tree, leaning my back on the trunk. The pond rests quietly, reflecting the moon on its surface.

A small bit of wind comes blowing, and it distorts the beautiful image laid on the pond and also blows out my candle.

I don't mind that the wind blew out my candle. The moon is bright enough to let me see anyway.

"No, she can definitely hear us."

The same voice from yesterday pipes up right beside me. It followed me all the way here?

Are they having.. a conversation with someone? That sounded a lot like a statement to another statement that was made by the other voice that I can't hear.

Ghosts aren't real. This is most likely to be a blood demon art.

My hands cover my ears, and I squeeze my eyes shut. "I can't hear anything. I can't hear anything. I'm sleepy, I need to get sleep. Mr. Sleep please let me sleep... I really require that sleep."

I enchant a dumb "magic" spell to keep the voices away.

I wait a few seconds before opening my eyes and placing my hands on the ground.

No voice. I sigh and tilt my head toward the pond, when I see-

"AHH!" I scream when I see a figure sitting by the pond.

She looks like a normal girl. The only thing I know is that she's not alive. She doesn't give off a human aura.

She widens her cyan-colored eyes ever so slightly, and points to herself. "You.. can see me now?"

I shut my eyes again. "I can't see you! This is all part of my great imagination."

I can feel her cold hands rest on my shoulders. "We won't hurt you, Kiyo."

My eyes open in pure shock. "How do you know my name? Why do you act like you've know me for so long?"

Her lips form a soft line. Okay, maybe she's not that terrifying.

She has a pink flower kimono-type clothing, which is half-covered by a dark blue vest worn on top of the kimono. A unique fox mask on her head is placed with two blue flower designs. Her dark, shoulder length hair goes along perfectly with her pale-looking face.

"Oh, I've known you for long enough to know basically everything about you." She answers.

I cringe. "That came out a bit too creepy, if you know what I mean."

She laughs softly. "I'm glad you can finally see me now."

"You know my name already." I ease down a bit. "What's your name?"

"Ah, right." She says, sitting in a graceful posture. "My name is Makomo."

"Makomo.. Makomo. Never heard that name before." I mumble.

"That's because you've never met me before." She answers simply. "We've been watching over you. You never saw us, because we aren't shown to some people."

I frown. That word again. "You keep saying 'we'. I don't see or hear anyone other than you."

She giggles and shakes her head. "Maybe it's not time yet."

"Well can you tell me who it is?" I ask, getting too curios.

"Kiyo," She gives me one of her soft smiles again. "Some things are for you to answer yourself. Now, you better go get sleep, or else you won't be able to do anything in the morning."

Makomo starts to get up, but I stop her.

"Will- will I be able to see you again?" I ask. I still have a lot of questions. She just added some more questions to my list.

She gives me a closed-eye smile. "I've always been there, Kiyo. You just didn't know it."

With that, she fades away like mists on a sunny day, leaving me ponder in my thoughts.

I just talked to a ghost.

That's cool and terrifying at the same time.

Startled still, I get up and head back to my room.

When I enter back into my room, I realize my haori was still with me.

Too lazy to go back to the dressing room, I throw my haori onto the floor and crawl back into the safeness of my blanket.

Finally being able to lie down again, I sigh, letting all my tiredness out.

"Ooh, look at your haori. It might need some washing.."

A voice, Makomo's, comes out of thin air and I see my haori being picked up by nothing. Which is really just Makomo in her true form.. I guess? Just invisible.

Do I really need to get used to this now?
