Kiyo's POV

"..'sister'?"

Makomo glances at her side, then back at me. "No-"

"You said sister. Don't even try to lie, it's so obvious." I say, shrugging my shoulder. "I'm whose sister?"

She sighs. "You can't see them, remember?"

"So I have a sibling?"

"I guess there is no point in lying now." Makomo mumbles. "Yeah, you have a sibling; a brother in fact."

"Whoa!" I exclaim. "That's cool! I have a dead brother??"

I blurt it out loud, but close my mouth in shock.

I have a dead brother?

How- how did he die?

Where are my parents?

Are they also dead? Possibly. There is a good chance they were already dead before my brother.

"How-" I mumble, glancing up at Makomo.

"He died during the final selection. Like me." Makomo answers a question I wasn't able to bring out of my mouth.

"You guys died at the final selection?" I feel a tug on my chest, feeling guilty for some reason. I'm being selfish not joining the corps and working on my own. So many people died at the final selection... I just didn't go.

Makomo. At first glance I could feel a strong aura coming off of her. Surely she wouldn't have died so easily.

I don't know about my brother...

"The hand demon." Makomo mumbles. "He ripped my limbs off when I lost control of my movements. Your brother got really close, though."

"The.. hand demon?" I furrow my brows.

"He had many hands, I guess you could call it. It wrapped its arm around its neck to protect it. Your brother was really close to beheading it... only if its neck wasn't as thick. The demon was targeting Urokodaki-san's students, such as ourselves. The hand demon wanted to get back at Urokodaki-san for trapping him in the final selection."

Urokodaki... Urokodaki... why does that name sound so fami-

My head bolts up. Tomioka-san!

Did he behead the hand demon? I mean, I heard he was a student of Urokodaki's. If he survived, then.. maybe he killed it.

"I'll be right back, Makomo!!" I shout, running out of the room to find Tomioka-san.

Makomo's POV

Kiyo runs out of the room. I tilt my head toward Sabito, who is wearing his fox mask like usual.

"She's going to go find Giyu, isn't she?" He mumbles. "I'm glad he's doing alright. He came really far, presenting the name of the water pillar very well."

"Psh," I roll my eyes jokingly. "Why do you have to be so serious? If it wasn't for you and Kiyo's resemblance, I wouldn't know you guys are siblings."

"You are serious too, you know." He mentions. "Back when we were training Tanjiro-"

"Oh please," I interrupt. "That was training. This is different. It's your sister, after all."

I can hear him sigh through the mask.

"What's bothering you?" I ask.

He looks away a little, then vanishes into thin air.

I didn't even need to ask what was bothering him, because I already knew.
