"You just...casually have this in your apartment?"
He nodded bringing over a thick slab of clay and dropping it into the little pot thing where the spiny part was. Wow—you really had to buy a pottery dictionary or something.
"Pottery is fun, I like to do it when I'm free sometimes."
You dropped your bag near the door and walked over to the pottery wheel sitting on a little table near the back corner of the living room.
"Other times it's just here for decoration. Osamu hates it," he continued. You eyed the...contraption. It was small and ugly, not to mention it didn't match the vibe of the room at all. It stuck out.
Osamu was right with this one.
"Well...can't say he's in the wrong," you muttered. Suna pretended not to hear you.
He motioned for you to take a seat across from him. You complied.
"So first, we'll start with throwing and centering. Pretty much, whenever you begin a new project you wedge it on a surface. I've already done that, so. Next, you..."
He instructed you pretty well actually. He was really good at manipulating the clay to do exactly what he wanted and made it seem really easy.
When it was your turn, you found that it was not really easy.
"No, see, you use your fingers to create that opening and then you smooth it out—can I?"
His hand hovered over yours, his gaze burning into you. You nodded, and he rested them over your own. You didn't fail to notice that your hands were much smaller than his.
He went through the motions of smoothing it out and rounding the outside, how to alter the shape, length, width. It was a lot of information and honestly you weren't digesting much of it.
At some point, you both agreed it was awkward for him to be sitting across from you because you kept bumping heads, so he shifted his seat next to yours. You could feel his body heat, smell his cologne, see the smooth skin on his face. His skin was so clear, it shocked you a little.
He caught you staring multiple times, every time you would make an excuse to not inflate his ego even more.
"I know I'm your distraction, but could you please pay attention? It's hard to focus when someone's staring at you every second." he said once, teasingly. You rolled your eyes and made some excuse about admiring his eye color.
"They're green."
"Woah, didn't notice."
You found out after failing to make your thirteenth tea cup that green eyes were recessive in his dad's side of the family. His grandma had them, his dad had them, he had them.
"It's probably a genetic mutation. Do you think I'll manifest superpowers too?" He asked, crumpling the cup and wiping clay off of the wheel. You scrunched your nose.
"I hope you manifest common sense first. Remember when you tripped on a—"
He interrupted you with a very falsely enthusiastic, "Next lesson!"
It was calming to be with him. He made you feel at ease, prioritized, and you were really learning more about pottery. You were finally able to form the cup by the time it hit six. The sun was setting outside, nearly gone beyond the horizon. He had such a good view of the city from the living room's windows.
"I think I'm ready for something more advanced," you told him, grinning from ear to ear as you presented the tea cup in all of it's glory. It wasn't the best, but what really mattered was that it wasn't the worst.
