"I'll forgive you for going behind my back and staging an intervention for my sort-of ex boyfriend just because this outfit is really fucking cute—but do not think i've forgotten."
"Yeah, you never do," Yemi laughed, standing after fixing the darkened fleece tights you had on. She moved to straighten the gold necklaces dangling on your neck that she had let you borrow; one of them a small heart locket that barely fell past your collarbones and the other one a Y-shaped staple piece that stopped before the low cut in the dress began. The movement was interrupted by a notification lighting up your phone, which you nearly leapt over her for.
Yemi yelped as she stepped out of your way and you quickly snatched up the device, excitement bubbling through you when you saw the text.

"Five minutes." you repeated to your roommate, feeling fully alert and sprinting across the room to a mirror.
"You're acting like this is your first date ever." She chided, walking up behind you holding a light jacket. "You do remember that it's just Suna, right? He's liked you since before either of you could actually like each other 'cause you were with Sakusa. He helped you all the time and did a bunch of stuff and you like him...the necessary words aren't coming to my mind but you understand what I'm getting at!"
"I don't think I know what you just said, but I appreciate the effort to say something coherent. I know it's hard, girl." you said to her while undoing the tight braids all over your hair to curl it. You probably would've broken down into tears seeing how complicated it was to get it to look as good as the inspiration picture you'd found on Pinterest if Yemi, hairstylist that she was, hadn't come to your rescue. She helped you finish unbraiding and made the curls look silky smooth and perfect, but when you opened your mouth to thank her, she put a finger to your lips.
"Don't thank me." she told you while weirdly keeping her finger on your lip. "I accept your love and friendship as my thanks."
"Yemi, get your finger away from my mouth before I bite it."
Ignoring your warning, she leaned down to sweetly plant a kiss on your temple, following that up by pulling you into her to encase you in a hug. You returned it hesitantly, pausing for a moment before wrapping your arms around her waist. Being emotional wasn't abnormal for your friendship, but kisses were so rare that they initiated a fight or flight reaction every time.
"What's with the sentimentality?" you asked, rubbing her back soothingly.
Yemi was silent for a moment, and immediately your guard was all the way up. You almost pulled back to look into her eyes, but she pulled you tighter against her, nearly cradling your head.
"Yemi?"
Eventually, after too much silence, she finally said something.
"My little girl's all grown up!" she fake sobbed, patting your head. You had to remind her that she was frizzing up the freshly finished curls.
"What do you mean your 'little girl?'" you questioned, laughing. "We're both very much twenty-year-old adults."
"Isn't that crazy? Last time I helped you get ready for a date we were in high school and I was yelling advice at you over FaceTime. It's so amazing how much we've grown together in just a few years, isn't it?"
