Chapter 26: Appointments and Things

I spin around right into his classroom he checks to make sure no one sees before he shuts the door. "Are you okay?"

I stare at him dumbfounded "What?"

He repeats himself "Are you okay?"

"No, I heard you. I just wasn't sure I heard you correctly. Why do you care Jake? YOU cheated on ME! Not the other way around."

He sighs "Because I still love you Mel."

I shake my head "No, you should have thought about that before you fucked another woman and for your information no I'm not okay." I turn around and walk out of his classroom before I burst into tears. Damn hormones.

I finish the school day as painlessly as possible considering the day I've had. I walk out of the building and to my car. I pull out my phone to call my GYN to see about a test. Just as I'm about to dial I see Lizzie appear in my passenger seat.

"Whatcha doin?"

I roll my eyes and look back at her "Well I was about to call my doctor about a test."

She nods "Ah. Okay."

We sit in silence for a moment and I look back at her "Are you going to sit here while I call?"

"Yup."

"Oh, okay then."

I push dial and listen, then I hear "Womens General Health how can we help you today?"

"Hello, my name is Melinda Fairbanks and I'd like to make an appointment."

"And what is this appointment regarding?"

"Well i took a pregnancy test and it was positive I'm just looking for another opinion."

"Of course Miss. Fairbanks, how's tomorrow at 4?"

"Perfect."

"Okay see you then!"

"Yes ma'am, thank you."

"No problem. Have a nice day."

"You too."

I calmly hang up and look over at Lizzie "WELL?!" She says dramatically.

"I have an appointment tomorrow at 4."

"Good, now let's get out of here."

"Uh Liz?"

She looks up at me "What?"

I point beside me "Your... Car?"

She starts laughing "Duh. Alright I'll see you at your place."

I chuckle as she gets out "Okay."

We pull up to my house and surprise surprise my mother is no where to be found. At the hospital yet again. I get she's upset and hoping my father will make it through this, but I just don't think he will.

Pushing that thought from my mind until necessary. I get out of my car and walk to the front as Liz meets me. We walk inside together. Liz says slowly very guarded about what she says, given the situation I understand. "So Mel, whatcha wanna do?"

I shrug "I don't know, maybe eat a snack? Watch TV?"

She nods and goes and snoops in the kitchen. "Whatcha hungry for?" I sit and think as I scroll through Netflix, "Apples and peanut butter honestly." From in the kitchen I hear "Ooh that sounds good." She exits the kitchen a fee minutes later bowl of apple slices in hand and a separate bowls of peanut butter for the both of us so we can double dip to our hearts delight.

We settle on Grey's Anatomy and watch as Meredith pines for Derek, much like I pine for Jake. I let tears fall as I listen and watch Meredith beg Derek to choose her "Pick me, Choose me, Love me." A few tears fall as Liz looks over. "Mel?" I quickly wipe the tears away hoping she didn't see. All she does is wrap her arm around my shoulders, and let's me lay my head on her shoulder as I cry silently.

Liz and I jump awake as we hear the front door close. We hear the click clacking of my mom's high heels as she appears turning the corner. She jumps herself as she sees us sitting on the couch looking in her direction "Oh! Girls!" She says as she grabs her chest.

"Oh my gosh, sorry mom. We fell asleep we weren't trying to scare you."

She nods "It's okay, did you girls eat? It's almost 9."

Liz looks at me "Oh, crap. I should have been home by now. I'm gonna go call my mom, I'll probably stay here tonight is that alright, Mrs. Fairbanks?"

She nods "Of course Lizzie, anytime."

She then wanders off to call her parents, I look over at my mom "To answer your earlier question though mom, no we haven't eaten. Aside from some apples earlier."

"Okay hun, I'll call the pizza place down the street, they're open until 10. Pepperoni okay for you both?" I nod. "Yes, sounds great."

"Alright. I'll do that you go ahead and shower for bed, you can go to sleep after you eat."

"Sure, mom." I then rush out of there as quick as I can to take a shower, it just sounds so nice.

After I shower and eat, Lizzie and I are off to bed. We talk about random nonsense before it's officially lights out which happens around 11:30. We say goodnight and within minutes Lizzie is lightly snoring. I close my eyes to fall asleep and I hear my phone beep, I grab it and look and have 2 texts.

Jake: Hope all is okay with you. Sorry about today.

I close that one and look at the other.

Cody: Hello, best girlfriend ever, I haven't heard from you but I heard you were with Liz so I'll hear from you soon I guess <3.

I smile and text him back.

Me: Just fell asleep watching TV. Going to actual bed now, night. <3

I then roll over to fall asleep. Not too long later my world went black into the abyss of sleep.
