Lisa's POV
"Come on, Riles, let's go. It's our first day of school. You got your shoes?" As Lisa shifted her gaze towards her daughter, who was already nodding yes and waiting for her Mama to tie her shoes.
"Riley, I want to hear you say yes or no."
In a sweet, but high pitched little voice Riley looks and tells her "Yes, Mama I have my shoes" and with that verbal response leaves Lisa with a satisfied smirk on her face.
"Thank you. Now let's put on your shoes before we are both late!" (Riley giggles) as Lisa loops the bunny ears into a perfect knotted bow. Alright kiddo, let's hit the road.
*** running towards the elevator
"HOLD IT! Thank You Mr. James." "No problem Miss Presley."
"James, please call me Lisa and thanks again, if you didn't hold the elevator for us then this kiddo and I would've been late for sure."
5, 4, 3, 2, 1 DING! Doors open...
"Alright miss pres—" I mean Lisa see you this evening?" Mr James said as he was staring down at Lisa and holding the door for her and Riley. "Hopefully if Riley and I don't get caught up in this NY traffic. You know how it is." Lisa says as she laughs nervously, but playfully when grabbing Riley's hand getting ready to bolt out of the doors.
"I do and good luck to you, if I don't see you later today; then during tomorrow's elevator ride we are going to have something to talk about."
Lisa lightly chuckles "Yes sir" as she grabs Riley's hand and starts rushing down to the lobby, while Riley yells and waves "BYE-BYE MR JAMES!"
Once in the back of her town car, Lisa placed Riley safely and snugged in her carseat. While distracted by her favorite tinker bell doll; Lisa rests her head back and closes her eyes to calm her nerves down and too slow down her train of thought. Let's just say the last three months have been a blur for her.
This past summer Lisa has gained a new sense of independence since she had separated and filed for divorce from her high school sweetheart Danny, who is also Riley's father. While moving out on her own, making the decision to go back to school and finally making the decision to leave the church. Let's just say Lisa's life and mind were kind of in a whirlwind.
Today will be Lisa's first day back at NYU after taking some time off to give Riley and her marriage her undivided time. She ended up not liking the marriage role as she thought she would, but she did enjoy being Riley's Mama. Lisa felt like she needed to do more in life than be someone's wife and honestly the same ole' routine was getting old, and she just felt like life was just at a stand still. I guess you can say being the daughter of Elvis Presley, one of Rock n Roll's Kings, she in a way wanted a spontaneous lifestyle, but with stability.
Sitting there and thinking about her life decisions, one thing Lisa didn't regret is having her baby girl Riley. Riley was her pride and joy, the air she breathed, her best friend and overall, her everything. At times she does question if leaving Danny was a good choice because unfortunately that meant Riley was going to have to go back and forth between her parents; which Lisa wasn't a fan of when growing up. Having to divide her time between both parents and even in separate states took a toll on her. But when looking at this little one, it seems that Riley isn't too phased by the divorce, the moving out of the family home or just any of the life changes. So I guess you can say the one that needed to get a grip on reality was Lisa...
"Excuse me, Miss Presley?", her driver Robert said while looking at her in his rearview mirror. Snapping out of her daze, Lisa looks outside to see that she is currently parked in front of the campus right when she was just now starting to relax; while telling herself that things were gonna be okay. That things were gonna be good for everyone, including her...
"Oh. Oh, thank you Robert and sorry I think I kinda zoned out back here; Lisa said as she laughed nervously, talked lowly and pushed back a loose strand of hair back behind her ear. "Listen It's okay Miss Presley, here let me help you and Riley out." Once out of the car Lisa and Riley say they're goodbyes and let the driver know that they will call him when their day is done. As the chauffeur drives off, Lisa picks up Riley and places her on her hip.
As she takes a deep breath and sighs, "alright kiddo, you ready for our first day?"
"Yes, Mama" Riley says with a huge smile on her face...
