Lillith slowly got out of her bed and walked to the bedroom to get changed. She had gone to bed with everyone else but really she was just waiting for them to go to sleep. Lillith was just putting on her jeans when she saw the poison in her leg had spread since this morning. It was not my much but it had spread a little. At dinner just like he said he would Chiron pulled her aside and gave her a brew of purple liquid. It was in a small jar and she was instructed to take a gulp of it every morning. This would slow the manticore poison spreading. The flask was currently under her bed out of sight from everybody. Lillith wondered what made her want to slow the poison down in the first place. It wasn't like she had any family of friends she was holding on for. Maybe it was because she wanted to find out what she was before she died. That she had to know...she had to know if she really was the monster Hades seems to think she is. After she was dressed Lillith snuck out of the Hermes cabin and walked across the grass towards the girls when she heard a strange hissing sound. She quickly wiped put the twin daggers she had concealed on her and looked around for the source of the noise. Then out of the shadows appeared something very strange. It was a strange kind of monster with the face and body of a woman but with the feathers and claws of a bird."Put the daggers away. We do not eat monster we only eat demigods." Said the thing.
"And you see me as a monster just like you?"
"Yes of course. One of Hecate's creations, very powerful you are. We monsters bow to you."
"A creation? What do you mean?"
"I am sure you will find out soon enough." Said the creepy bird woman as she vanished into the dark. Lillith turned and quickly headed to the field. Maybe Nico would be able to explain what she just saw. She got to the field and looked around but Nico wasn't there.
"Lillith? You alright?" Said the pale boy appearing beside her.
"Nico thank the Gods your here. I saw a creepy bird woman on the way here. I didn't think monster could get in here."
"They can't. What you saw was just one of the cleaning harpies. Harpies are creatures often described as birds of prey with a woman's face. There are three of them and they come out at night, they eat any of the demigods that are sneaking around at night. They don't tend to bother me though."
"And they left me alone because I'm one of them."
"Why would you say that? You've been telling me that your not a monster why believe it now? Did the harpy you saw say something to you?"
"No no honestly it's fine. I'm just weird."
"You not the weirdest person on this field you know."
"You talking about yourself?"
"I am."
"Look I know that everyone is scared of you because of who you are but that in itself doesn't make you weird."
"Lillith I was born in the earlier years of 1930."
"What? That's not possible. That would make you like over 70."
"It is possible. We were trapped in the Lotus hotel and Casino in Las Vegas. It's the home of the lotus eaters. You eat the flowers you never want to leave. You don't age and your stuck there for ever. That's what happened to me then one day a couple of years ago a man in a lawyer suit told us that it was time to go and we snapped out of it. I thought I was only there for a month and it turns out I was there for over 70 years. I'm a guy that's not only the son of Hades but technically a 70 year old Italian boy."
"You're Italian?" Said Lillith with a smile. Nico glared at her and she smiled. "Okay I'll give you that, that's pretty weird but then again at least you know exactly what you are and where you come from. Anyway come on you said you would train me..." Lillith said as she and Nico charged into action...
Lillith lay on the ground, covered in sweat and blood and looked up at the stars. Nico was still stood up watching her, he had a few cuts on him which was more than other people had managed to land on him. When she got angry Lillith was actually really good and she had taken all his tips and advice really seriously.
"How long are you going to lay there?" He asked her.
"Oh come on, I'm so worn out right now. I have already done a whole afternoon of this while you just stood around so you can keep your gob shut." Nico raised his eyebrows a little. Very little people had the guts to speak to him like that. He felt a small smile tug at the side of his mouth as he sat down on the ground next to her. He put is hands behind him and looked up at the sky. "What your sword made out of?" She asked suddenly.
"Stygian iron."
"Does it kill monsters?"
"You saw what it did to the manticore."
"Alright but I met this Hephaestus kid today and he said that all the weapons were made out of celestial bronze because only that can kill monsters."
"Then he was wrong. Stygian iron is rare metal found only in the Underworld."
"Seems appropriate for the son of Hades." She said sitting up and looking at him. His hand was really close her her and then she spotted the ring on his hand again. Was she brave enough to ask? Nico seemed to be being to open right now but she had a feeling that this ring was a gift from someone really special...it might be painful for him to talk about. "Hey Nico you don't have to answer but...can I ask why the ring you wear is so special to you? I mean you do always wear it." Nico looked down at his left hand but said nothing. Lillith sighed inwardly, she knew that she would probably be met with cold silence.
"It was the last present my sister Bianca gave me. She was older than me, she looked after me and the only one to accept me. Then a few years ago she joined the hunters of Artemis, went on a quest and never came back. That's why it's so special to me. I went to the Underworld to try and get her back but she had chosen to be reborn."
"Reborn?"
"In the Underworld if you are not happy with the life you lead you can chose to be reborn. Live again. Bianca wanted to live again t have another shot at the isles of Blest in Elysium. A place for heroes. Those who do not wish to be judged or have done neither good nor bad in their life go to fields of Asphodel were your soul just wonders forever. Most forget their memories there and the place it so big that if someone goes there you might never be able to find them again. Then there are the fields of punishment. That's were those that have done bad go were they suffer for eternity."
"When you say judged..." Lillith began.
"When you die you enter the Pavilion. This is were you will be placed in front of three judges and they decide where you are to go in the Underworld. That's after passing Cerberus the three headed dog and there is also queuing."
"So even in death will still have to que for stuff. Fun!"
"Any of that put you off me?"
"No why would it? I mean I know you the child of death and the Underworld is meant to be like your home and everything but I still don't see why everyone is so scared of you." As soon as she said this the ground beneath her began to shake and rumble. She looked around in shock as skeletons rose from the ground. "You can raise the dead too?"
"You didn't think you were the only one with weird powers did you?"
"That's not scary that's awesome. You could just summon an army of them to fight your battles for you. You wouldn't even have to do anything. You know if I ever start a war I'm so gonna make sure your on my side because you must be one hell of an opponent...no pun intended there." Nico couldn't help but laugh at her. It wasn't a big laugh but it was enough to make Lillith's heart melt in her chest. She had never seen Nico in this light before. He looked cute and she had the urge to kiss him but she knew that was a bad idea. Instead she nudged him playfully with her elbow. "I was beginning to think you didn't know how to laugh..."
