I can't fucking believe it either but I started playing merge dragons and dragon city and I actually got inspired.
So I took creative liberty and did some of my own world building, and the idea that comes to mind is this mix of the two:
In a land riddled with death and haunted by withering, there were once mighty dragons.
Dragons of all shapes and sizes. Dragons based on anything (to the humans POV of course). Dragons based on bugs, dragons based on elements, heck dragons based on gods and zodiacs! There was no other term to describe this, they were everywhere, and could be tamed as well.
But then a new species arose. Ghouls, ones that rose from the deepest depths of the earth, carrying disease and curses upon curses for the sins and regrets they carried into the afterlife.
These affects spread like a wildfire throughout the world, dragons fell ill and very few survived. Humanity could only do the basic tactics like social distancing and sanitizing. But as the years passed and a cure was found, it was time for humanity to rise up again.
The eggs of the dragons were the only survivors of their species. Many humans saw the opportunity for adventure, riches, power, and best of all, hope. All contained in these tiny eggs.
So what were they all waiting for? It was time to split up, set up camps, and raise these dragons!
Backstory complete, as for plot it can be whatever you want as per usual, go knock yourselves out.
