"Don't be disheartened, princess." Bela said while brushing the hair of Dhisana.
"How can I not be, Bela ? Everytime this happens." Dhisana said with a sigh.
"Well, Rajkumar will be here for sometime. Why don't you make the best out of it ?" Bela suggested.
"He will ?" Dhisana asked looking at her through the mirror.
"Yes. My father says that Yudh-jeevi doesn't return to Nagasaharya unless a written message is sent for him." Bela told.
"Why is that ?" The princess of Mlecchas asked, rather confused.
"I don't know that. Neither does my father." Bela said as she finished combing the hair.
Another sigh escaped the lips of Dhisana, everyday she is getting to know something new and also odd about her husband. If only she could get some time to know him personally, rather than the words of Bela, Ashwasen or the Ashwarohis.
Suddenly the sound of thunder fell on their ears, both the ladies looked outside the window. The first rain of the season had started pouring.
Bela posted haste and quickly tied the hair of Dhisana in a bun, topping it off by pinning an avgunthan on it. Dhisana looked herself in the mirror, checking if anything was left out. Once she was satisfied she stood up from her seat and left.
Bela escorted her to the room of Manvendra, which for the time being was now their common room. The doors of the room were closed. Bela knocked on it.
"I am busy right now !" The booming voice of Manvendra came from inside.
"Raudra, it's me." Dhisana said.
Hearing his wife's voice, the very moment Manvendra went up to the door and opened it, where she stood with her hand maiden. Bela bowed to him, before taking her leave.
'If only he'd open the doors of his heart like so for me.' Dhisana thought looking at his face which seemed ever uninterested due to lack of expressions.
"Come in." Manvendra said moving to the side.
Dhisana entered the room, her eyes wandered around the place curiously. It was spacious and grand, designed with high ceilings and ornate moldings. The bedroom evoked a feeling of luxury and elegance.
Her eyes then fell on the centerpiece of the room, the grand bed, draped with sumptuous fabrics and plush pillows. It seemed to be made of the finest materials such as silk, brocade, and satin. The headboard too was intricate, crafted with a variety of precious woods, carvings, and metals to add character.
Dhisana then gazed at a desk, over which loads of scrolls and papers were kept in a very organised manner.
"What are these for ?" She asked out of curiosity, looking at her husband.
"My yearly report. I have to present it in front of the royal court of Hastinapur." Manvendra said going back to his desk.
"How long will it take ?" Dhisana asked seeing him dipping his quill in the inkpot.
"Not much." Manvendra said writing something down. Dhisana nodded, hoping that 'not much' shall actually mean 'not much'.
It was rather dark in the room, Dhisana realised it was because of the closed windows.
"May I open the windows ?" She asked.
"It's your room too. Do whatever you want." Manvendra told nonchalantly, busy in his paper work.
Dhisana went up to the large window and opened it, the smell of wet pavement and fresh earth filled the room, along with a gust of cool, damp air. She closed her eyes and took a deep breath, savoring the refreshing scent of the rain.
Dhisana now understood why monsoons were regarded as the season of love, for it was the time when all creatures of the earth came alive, and when the bond between them was strongest. Indradev nurtured the earth and everything that lived on it, and in turn, everything held hands with everything else, sharing the joy of existence.
She looked back at Manvendra, thinking about what Bela had told her about the importance of monsoon for Arya couple, especially that of a newly wed one.
Gazing at him, she wondered if he'd make a move on her tonight, or would he just sleep beside her, as they had done for the past few nights ?
Despite their recent nuptials, they not even talked properly let alone kissed, and she couldn't help but feel a growing sense of frustration. Did he not find her attractive? Was he hesitant to consummate their marriage? All sorts of thoughts swirled through her mind as she stood there, nervous and apprehensive.
Soon after finishing his work, Manvendra stood up from his seat and stretching his arms, he went up to the bed, lying down. His eyes then fell on Dhisana who was still standing by the side of the window, looking at him.
"You will catch a cold there, come here." He said
Dhisana walked towards the bed, one may call it the impact of the rain, but she couldn't help but feel disappointed as she lay in bed beside her newly wedded husband. She had dreamed of this moment for long, the night of first rain, imagining his passionate embrace, but now it seemed as though it was not to be.
"It's the first rain of the season in Kuru-rashtra." She pointed out.
"I know." Manvendra said.
"Then you must know what needs to be done ?" Dhisana asked.
Manvendra looked at her, knowing what she was asking. But he knew although it was the night of the first rain, although the atmosphere was perfect, it was still not the right time for them. How can he who feels nothing, give pleasure to her ?
Manvendra remembered his conversation with Krishna, now even he had started to believe that maybe she was his liberation. But was he the same for her ? He didn't know as she was full of life and he was devoid of it. What kind of a pair were they !
"Do you trust me ?" He asked.
"I do." Dhisana said.
"Then trust me when I say it is not the right time, for us." Manvendra told.
Dhisana frowned, she couldn't shake the feeling of frustration. Was it something she had done wrong ? Had she not been pretty enough ? Or smart enough ? She couldn't understand. Perhaps she was not Aryaa enough for him ?
"Then when will the right time come ?" She asked raising a brow.
"One day for sure." Manvendra said.
Dhisana looked down disappointedly, and turned to the other side.
