Dhisana was lying on her sumptuous silk bed, gazing at the setting rays of the sun which entered her room through the balcony. The room, adorned with exquisite tapestries and intricate paintings, feels lifeless and empty without her husband's presence.
The entire day had passed, she hadn't seen Manvendra. She was feeling as if she had been trapped in Gajasaharya once again, where all she did was wait for him. Those painful memories were evoking the pangs of longing in her once again.
The monotony of her solitary existence at the moment was amplifying her boredom, leaving her soul restless and her spirit weary. Time felt sluggish, and Dhisana found herself getting lost in her world of thoughts, which were consumed by Manvendra's face, his soothing voice, and the warmth of his embrace.
A small smile appeared on her face as her thoughts drifted to the first few days of her marriage and how she was under the impression that her husband is as spiritless as a pillar and doesn't care about her, but how in reality he was such a romantic man with words that pierce right through the heart.
She still couldn't wrap her head around how this sudden change in him came. Maybe it was the pangs of separation, or maybe he didn't show his true self at first for some reason. Dhisana wasn't sure.
Suddenly a knock on the door brought her out of her thoughts.
"Yes ?" She sat up straight.
"Your mother-in-law wishes to meet you, princess." The voice of a maid said.
Listening to that Dhisana hurriedly stood up and rushed to the door. She quickly opened it and saw Sulabha, smiling at her.
"Pranaam Mata." Dhisana greeted and touched her feet.
"Saubhagyavati Bhava." Sulabha blessed raising both her hands.
"You could've called for me Mata, I would've been happy to be at your service." Dhisana said.
"But I couldn't wait that long to talk to you, dear." Sulabha said cupping the face of Dhisana.
"Please come in." Dhisana said, stepping aside and giving way for her mother-in-law to walk in.
Sulabha stepped inside and went up to the couch, Dhisana followed her lead after shutting the door behind. Both of them sat down comfortably, finally alone in each other's presence.
"Oh, I have so much to talk to you." Sulabha said not knowing where to begin, "That silly boy made me wait so much !" She said.
"He made me wait too, for one year. I think he loves to tempt people." Dhisana said.
Laughters were shared between them, which was then accompanied by a moment of silence.
"I missed this jovial side of him. I prayed every day to Narayan, so my old Manvendra can return." Sulabha said.
Dhisana looked at her confused, she didn't understand what Sulabha meant by her words.
"You know dear, I begetted him after a lot of struggles. He is the boon of Rudradev Manyu. He is my everything, he always brought me great joy. With high hopes I had sent him to Dronacharya, wishing that he'd then bring me great pride as well but...." Sulabha's voice became heavy as she got emotional.
"But ?" Dhisana asked, confusion evident in her voice which Sulabha didn't notice.
"But all I got back was a desolate man, a body that was alive but a soul that was dead." She said with a sad sigh.
A frown appeared on the face of Dhisana, she was unable to comprehend what her mother-in-law was saying. But then her mind once again recalled the first few days of their marriage, where did seem lifeless. Now her mind was being clouded by a million questions as to what happened that she didn't know.
"But now he is back to his original self." Sulabha said with a small smile as she looked at Dhisana, "And all because of you." She said, as she kept her hand over the ones of her daughter-in-law.
Dhisana's heart was pounding in her chest, she was getting a weird feeling from all this. She looked at Sulabha nervously, not knowing what to expect.
"I am forever grateful to you Dhisana. I cannot express my gratitude towards you, who broke the curse of my son." Sulabha said.
"The what ?" The eyes of Dhisana widened with shock.
