The sound of commotion permeated the atmosphere, disarraying the peaceful silence that once filled the regal halls. Raised pitches and urgent tones melded together, forming a collage of conflict that reverberated against the exquisite walls.
The clash of silverware against golden plates punctuated the chaos, creating staccato beats amidst the symphony of discord. The distinctive sound of glass shattering intermittently cut through the air.
The roars of frustration had mingled with anguished cries, accompanied by the loud thumps. These noises reached even the farthest part of the palace, alerting everyone.
Dhritrashtra accompanied by Bhishm, Vidur and Sanjay arrived quickly at the grand hall after hearing such commotion.
"What- what is happening here ?" The blind king asked, but he got no response for the ones who came with him, were too shocked at the view in front of them, as they stood with their lips parted.
The Pandavas along with Draupadi came rushing in hearing the noises and screams, they too stood frozen seeing all the Kaurav brothers on the floor and Manvendra standing tall amidst them, brushing the dust off of his collar, Dhisana stood at a distance of him, she seemed to have momentarily lost her ability of speech after witnessing everything that took place.
In the corners of the hall, Bhanumati and Chandramukhi were lamenting while Shakuni stood behind them, shuddering with fear. The centre of the hall was filled with the winces and and cries of the Kauravas.
Some of them were holding their dislocated legs, some were holding their dislocated arms, some weren't able to do so, for they had both dislocated legs and arms, they laid on the ground motionless, crying for help.
Other sons of Dhritrashtra were falling in and out of the bouts of consciousness, mummering something, but it was too incomprehensible to make out. They seemed to have gotten a nice blow on the head.
A few of them were wincing on the ground holding their fractured arms, while some among them had broken legs and some had broken hips. Their bodies were covered in bluish purple bruises.
And then there was Durmukh, with all the above mentioned injuries, he lay on the ground with broken and twisted limbs, momentarily gaining conciousness and then becoming unconscious again.
"Oh when I thought Durmukh's face couldn't get more ugly." Bheem muttered breaking the long silence while looking at his cousin with pity and slight cringe.
"Sanjay ! Tell me what is happening here !?" Dhritrashtra asked frustratedly.
"Maharaj.... It seems Rajkumar Manvendra has beaten up your sons.... Gravely....." Sanjay said, his eyes stuck on the view in front of him.
"How can he !? Wasn't Angraj with them ?" Dhritrashtra asked.
Sanjay looked around, a confused frown appeared on his face, "Angraj is nowhere to be seen, Maharaj." He said.
Bheem covered his mouth with his hand, Nakul coughed slightly, Sehdev diverted his gaze as he bit his cheek, while Arjun looked down and pressed his lips together, all of them supressing their urge to laugh.
Yudhishthir cleared his throat for his brothers to compose themselves, while Draupadi seemed extremely confused.
"Maharaj !" Shakuni cried out as he limped his way towards Dhritrashtra,"This nephew of yours is a monster ! A monster ! Even Rakshasas have more mercy than him !" He said.
"Manvendra, what is this !?" Dhritrashtra exclaimed.
"Your sons insulted and disrespected my wife, their Bhabhishree." Manvendra said calmly.
"Then you should've come to me !" Dhritrashtra yelled.
"And what would you have done ?" Manvendra asked.
"I-" Dhritrashtra fell quiet at that, his silence giving away his answer.
"Maharaj, I have done exactly what you should've done, punishing these 100 brothers, for their transgressions." Manvendra said.
He then held the hand of Dhisana, bringing her out of her shocked stance. He gently took her outside while the rest kept staring at him.
"Vidur-" "Forgive him Maharaj." Vidur interrupted Dhritrashtra.
"But how can I !?" The blind king asked agitated.
"The way you have forgiven your sons, for their conspiracies against Pandavas." Vidur said, carefully choosing his words.
Dhritrashtra fell silent, not having anything to say.
"Maharaj, isn't Manvendra too like your son ?" Vidur asked.
"H-He... He is...." Dhritrashtra said.
Vidur knew that his elder brother didn't completely mean it. But that wasn't his concern now.
"Then just like you have forgiven all the treacheries of your sons, forgive one mistake of my son too." Vidur said.
"Please do Tatshree. If the word gets out then think of the integrity of the nation." Yudhishthir came to his cousin's cause.
"Also Maharaj," Bheem joined in, "If we have tolerated so many crimes of Duryodhan, I am sure he can tolerate one of Manvendra as well." He said casting a smile at Duryodhan who glared at him.
"Dhritrashtra, it's in everyone's best interest that you forgive Manvendra. After all it was your sons who crossed the line of decency. If Manvendra has to be punished then they too should be. If you don't punish them, then forgive Manvendra as well." Bhishm said.
Dhritrashtra clenched his fists, but he was helpless here, "Fine. I forgive Manvendra." He said gritting his teeth.
"Now some call the vaid." Bheem said.
