a/n: lol ily guys

--

i shoved my phone into my sweatshirt pocket as i made my way over to the basement door. y/n had been cooped up down in the studio for hours; from nine when she woke up to now, six in the afternoon. i haven't even seen her since she went down there.

my mom had just called me and asked if we wanted to come over to her house to celebrate both mine and y/n's birthdays since they were just a month apart.

y/n's birthday had passed just a week ago, and we spent it exactly how we spent my own; at home with the twins. it was exactly how we wanted it. the both of us wanted nothing more than to stay at home with each other and our babies. it was perfect.

i already agreed to dinner but wanted to ask y/n if she was up to it too. it had been a while since we've gotten to see my family since we were so busy with the twins and planning their birthday and our wedding.

the twins were in the living room taking another one of their multiple daily naps as i knocked on the door to the basement. i swung open the door and was immediately hit with smoke and the familiar scent of weed.

i frowned, closing the door behind me since i had the baby monitor in my hand. i didn't want the smoke to spread throughout the house and the smell to spread.

"babe, are you smoking?" i groaned as i stated the obvious, waving my hand in front of my face even though it did nothing. "jesus, you did all this by yourself?" i commented, mostly to myself as i scrunched up my nose, walking up to her figure.

y/n was sitting on the couch that rested against the wall, a bit hunched over as one hand wrote furiously in her book as the other held a blunt. she was still dressed in the last thing i saw her in, a black hoodie with her black sweats, the outfit she was wearing a lot these days.

i could hear her mumbling random words or lyrics and humming a tune to herself, making me smile a little.

"hi, baby." i spoke up again, pushing my hair away from my face before taking a seat on the coffee table in front of the couch. our knees were almost touching and i leaned forward when she didn't answer.

"baby...?" i whispered with a small giggle, tapping her leg gently. the smile i had dropped instantly when she finally raised her head and looked at me in a way she never had before.

"yeah, hi." her head went right back down as she answered dryly, her hand coming up to stick the blunt back between her lips and inhale.

i didn't want to snap for something so little, so i sucked on my teeth and took in a deep breath. "okayyy..." i trailed off, straightening up a little. "well, mom called me and asked if we wanted to go over for dinner? she's cooking, so you know it'll be good. you wanna go?"

"no." she didn't even look up this time as she answered in a second. my body nearly jolted back at the way she was acting. again, i let it go.

"are you sure, honey? why don't you think about it for a bit, yeah? she said it'd be ready at seven so we have like two hours." i suggested, tilting my head to try and see her face.

"no, i'm sure."

i sighed, running my hand down my face. "baby-"

i jolted back again as y/n looked up quickly, tossing her book to the side as her hands went up in the air.

"christ, ariana, i said no! i am sure, i don't need to think about it-i said no. what the fuck do you not understand about no?" she wasn't yelling, but the way she was just speaking to me set me off.
